Acronis Scheduler constantly requesting power preventing sleep

Thread solved

Just recently, my power management has become ineffective. Upon investigation, I find the culprit is the Scheduler2 Service. It requests power sufficiently frequently to fool the power management into thinking the PC is in use; at least, that's what it seems like. This is easy to check via cmd with 'powercfg /REQUESTS'.

Has a recent change introduced this problem?

Hello Perrorist.

Thanks you for contacting.

As far as we are aware there aren't know issues related with the situation you just described.

Those issues require an investigation so we can have a look and confirm if the service is causing the issue.

I have raised a ticket for the issue ( the reference is 05779128 ). You can expect a contact from our side.

Thanks in advance.

One suggestion here would be to use the Acronis Scheduler Manager tool (link below) and use this to clear all scheduled entries then re-set your scheduled tasks individually.  It is possible that you have a phantom / rogue scheduled task entry.

In the scheduler manager, issue the command: task zap

That was interesting! I ran task zap and restarted my PC and got a BSOD! Haven't seen one of those in a long time. When the system came up again, the Schedule2 wasn't running, but as soon as I scheduled the first backup task, it was requesting power again. I'm running Windows 10 on this PC.

Very strange!  I have never heard of the schedule manager tool or the schedule2 service causing a BSOD nor seen the issue with it causing issues with power management.

Perhaps time to do a Repair Install of the Acronis software?

See KB 60915: Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office, Acronis True Image: repairing program settings - for more information.

Which actual build of ACPHO are you running here, or are you on ATI 2021?

I am running various recent versions of Acronis (ACPHO and ATI) on both Win 10 and 11 systems and not seeing any such issues.

It is ACPHO, build 40278.

I'll try the repair install.

Take a quick read of topic: 40252 locks up at start up

Yes, that's the cause of the problem. I turned off Active Protection, which I never needed anyway, and the power issue disappeared. The bug, if that's what it is, must have been introduced in the latest version, as I didn't have the problem before.

Thanks for your help, Steve.

Uh oh, the problem's come back, yet Protection is off.

Can I get an earlier version of the software? I think the only solution is to completely remove the current version and replace it with a more stable one.

Yes, you should be able to download build #40173 from your Acronis Account downloads page (which is what I have done myself), the alternative is to perform a custom install of #40278 with the Cyber Protect realtime protection not selected, which also works!

Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office: how to install | Knowledge Base

I tried the Modify approach, but nothing changed. I then used Revo Uninstaller to completely nuke the application, before rebooting and reinstalling #40252 without real-time monitoring. I then created a simple test backup of one folder and set it to repeat at hourly intervals.

All went well for four backups, so I deleted it and chose to clone a disk copy. That's when Schedule2 resurfaced.

I repeated the application deletion and rebooted again. This time, I installed #40173, and again did the disk clone, and again Schedule 2 reasserted itself.

I've sent the information Acronis needed for diagnosis and must now wait to hear from them.

Hello!

I've commented to our support the urgency in resolving the issue.

You can expect a contact from us as soon as possible. If that doesn't happen, feel free to reply here.

Thanks in advance.

The disk clone finished during the night. This morning I noticed that Schedule2 was no longer asking for power. Perhaps with #40173 it only needs power during the backup operation, whereas with #40252 it is perpetual? Just a thought.

EDIT

I didn't allow the disk clone to finish for #40252, so it's not a fair comparison. I need to upgrade to that version and let the clone finish before I can draw a valid conclusion.

As soon as the clone job finished, Schedule2 retired from the scene and all is good now.

Steve had the right answer: real-time monitoring was causing the problem.

I had this same problem and I modified the installation removing the real-time protection.  That did the trick; my machine once again sleeps soundly.  I didn't need to antivirus stuff anyway because I already run BitDefender Premium Security which does it all.

Acronis, I think you broke the latest release accidentally so it would be great if you would fix this issue.

Thanks!
