Error "Failed to read from the Sector 63 of the hard disk 2
Acronis True Image Home 2009 release 12.0.0.9709 produces an error, right on the startup and on attempt to conduct a scheduled backup: "Filed to tead from the sector 63 of the hard disk 2".
Attempt to use a recommended solution by downloading version 12.0.0.9796 caused error "Acronis True Image has stopped working" with options "Check online for a solution and close the program" (solution was not found), and "Close the program".
Laptop HP HP HDX 18; Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 with all updates; backups are made to external WD 1 TB drive connected by ESATA.
Unless issue will be fixed (and fast) I would like to you to return my money, so I can purchase a workig product.
(By the way, the is no email or chat option to be found, and there is no way I am going to pay for support for the product I'bought less than two month ago. I'd rahter call my credit card and request a chargeback for non-functioning product)

I currently am experiencing the same issue except on Acronis True Image Server 9.1 with Universal Restore Build 3.920. I got the following errors reporting:
Failed to read data from the disk.
Failed to read from the sector 63 of the hard disk 2
I sent a technical support request in from the site, but haven't heard anything. Acronis got hung up on an option to Retry, Ignore, Ignore All, Cancel. I hit Retry a couple of times, and would not work. Hit ignore and it continued but failed. I tried again and cancelled it when the error returned. I restarted the server. Ran CheckDisk with several options /f, /r, /b on the drive listed as Hard Disk 2 which found nothing as bad sectors or failed sectors in the report. Now I'm getting a message that I can not perform Incremential back ups and need to run a Full Backup for it to continue.
I was just wondering why, after many months with no hassle it would start to do that. Thanks.

No idea Robert but send in a report of your own.

Could well be a failed sector read of your disk, do a chkdsk/r of it?

Works for Acronis TrueImage Home 2010 too if anyone is wondering.....I just replaced the file TrueImageHomeService.exe (Local HDD/Perforning Backup) and everything worked fine....suggest you rename old file something like XXXTrueImangeHomeService.exe before replacing just in case it does not work for you...you can delete it later if it works.....

Acronis® True Image Home® version 11.0 (build 8,101)
Same problem. I returned two Seagate 1 TB drives on the basis of this report from Acronis, even though at least one drive passed an extensive read test with no errors using Western Digital's diagnostics.
Now I have new drives, and same problem after formatting them. The solution document above is not clear if it applies to version 11.0. I'm willing to purchase an upgrade, but not if it has the same problem.
Can Acronis confirm that 2010 works?

You are all missing the boat! This error only happens on Server 2008 64-bit and it isn't an Acronis problem! It is something wrong with the hard drive!
Here is the real fix. Try StorageCraft. Acronis is a total waste. Their support is non-existant. Have you tried ABR 10? Don't!

What if you are receiving this error during step 1 when the partition image is being created?
Step 2 of the KB article (see excerpt below) does not seem to address this.
2. At the point where the product is Analyzing partitions or Performing Backup you get an error message similar to the one below:
Failed to read from sector...
Thanks!

First think to try is to run chkdsk /r on the source drive.

I vaguely recall that years ago hard drives sometimes were configured with a 63 sector offset. I wonder if this possibly could be the problem. I do know that there are utilities like EZdrive which will remove the 63 sector offset.

I had similar "sector" problems after adding large USB drives to my notebook to be used for backups. The first drive was a 750GB external, the next one was a 1TB external drive. In TI11 I got sector errors every other day. Connecting the very same drive to my old W2K server with TI echo server installed worked just fine, without any sector errors.
Like the other poster mentioned i checked my drives with verious tools, had some of them replaced and verified by LaCie (they confirmed the drives were error free), just to get the same sector errors with the new drives.
I still use the same 1TB drive now but with TI2010 and guess what: no errors ever.
I really think that some older versions of TI were not able to reliably handle very large drives.

Well ... I have had the same problem on and off for years. I have started a new thread on it if anyone is interested. Upgrading the the lastest build of Echo Server did not do the trick. Here is the link if anyone is interested.

The solution for me was easy - I disconnected the two very large (2 terabyte) USB drives and the backup proceeded without the "sector 63" error.
My backup was of a folder on partition 2 (drive D:) of my laptop's internal disk to a 1.5 terabyte external USB drive. Acronis True Image Home 11 works without generating the error provided my other large external USB drives are not connected.
I can live with that.
