Changing partition sizes on restore
Hello,
I am using Acronis TI Home 10, and like it a lot. However an issue has come up.
I am replacing my 40GB hard drive with a new 120GB drive. I have two partitions on the old drive - both Windows XP Pro. One partition is 32GB, and the other is 6+ GB.
I did a complete disk backup, installed the new 120GB drive, and then did a disk restore. The problem is the two partitions remained at their original size (32GB and 6+ GB). The remainder of the space is shown as "unallocated".
The documentation seems to indicate that partition sizes can be changed during restore, but I saw no way to do it.
How can I correct this issue? I would like to end up with two partitions - 100GB and 20GB.
Thanks for your help.

Tony,
Do the restore from the CD.
As you start, click on tools, add new disk, choose the disk you want to restore TO. This will erase any existing partition.
As you restore, select the first partition (in the order it is placed on your original system. Note that the drive/partitions letters when you run ATI from the CD are not the same as in Windows. Pay attention to size, labels. These don't change).
When you select only one partition, ATI will let you adjust the size. Remember to properly make active the partition that was active and only that one.
Upon completion, no need to reboot. Restore the other partition.
Finally, restore the MBR+Track0 and the disk signature.

MudCrab,
It is TI 10 (not TI 2010).
Pat L gave me a procedure to try. I will try that
and post my results.
Thanks for your help.

Pat,
I will try the procedure you suggest. The only question I have
is: If I restore the MBR +Track0 after I restore the two partitions, won't
that be restoring bad information since the partition sizes have
changed, and the MBR+Track0 that were backed up contain
the old partion sizes?
I am not an expert in this stuff, so I'm just trying to learn from
you guys and trying to understand what I'm doing :)
Thanks!

Since you have already restored the MBR & Track 0 to the drive you should need to again. In any case, TI leaves the existing partition table when it does the restore.
With TI 10, you should be able to do what you want by restoring the individual partitions one at a time or by selecting them one at a time and following the wizard steps for each. Just don't select the Disk # checkbox. After you get through the steps for the selected partition TI will ask if you want to restore another one.
