2011 auto clean up is a mess
First, when using the default settings for doing dif backup, it assumes you have unlimited backup space on the backup drive. In fact, the general thinking seems to be we have unlimited backup space. The default it to delete old backups after 6 months, but make NO checks for disk space. And when it gets full, it makes a mess of the backup list. You have to first abort the backup then dig through menus to get select the oldest backup and tell it to delete it. It deletes it then CRASHES.
After the first mess, I tried to setup a custom backup. I set for differential, create full after the default 5th. And I set "Keep size of backup to no more then 230GB". This seems to be how you set min free space though the setting is backwards normal thinking setting how much to use instead of how much needs to be free. This setting SHOULD have triggered cleanup with free space dropped below 70gb. Full backups are ~50bg and the last dif backups where ~1.5-2gb. It did 2 full sets, but this morning when it should have done the next full, it screwed up AGAIN. There was enough space for a full backup, then free space check should see it was down to about 20gb and it SHOULD have started removing old backups. Instead, it ran itself out of disk space. When I logged on it popped up with a message that I had 600 seconds to decided what to do or it would shut down the computer. What brain dead moron put that in?? If I had gone afk before it finished coming back up, I would have come back to a shut down computer!! And what should we need double the space of a full backup to clean up old backups?
Also, it again messed up the list. It started a new entry that was corrupt but had the current backup settings. When I tried to restore the backup settings for the correct backup entry, it just creates a new setup with generic settings that aren't even the ones I set as default!
Another problem, When you have it update the list, it doesn't remove backups that are no longer there. And it created a second set of entries for the windows backups.
Where do you get your programmers? kindergarten?

I am on the latest build of ATIH 2011. Auto Cleanup simply does not work --- period.
You folks need to abandon your apparent philosophical approach of employing technical Geeks who operate on theory only, and employ some level headed Systems Analysts who have an appreciation for End Users and reality.
Your technical systems and programming efforts appear to exceed your technical and systems analyst capabilities ---

Well, I think that went rather well. . .

Joe,
Just a minor clarification. Responses by Acronis support are identified as Acronis.
Responses by an MVP or anyone else is a response by a volunteer not associated with and not employed by Acronis.
It might be helpful if you were to check out the Useful links section along the left margin of this webpage. There you will find methods of contacting Acronis either for support or bug reports or user comments. Acronis does not read each posting on the forum as official support is provided via the user contacting Support. Additional support help can also be found at the "sticky" postings at the beginning of the forum at the link below.

I can understand your frustration about a cleanup function which does not work as expected. In all of my personal use and testing, I have found the cleanup functions that work best is where the cleanup is based on controlling the number of backups. Attached is a couple samples showing task settings and the actual directory contents showing the successful cleanup results inside a storage folder.
My example does not include any testing based on a folder quota size but it does provide a successful workaround if you wish to use other methods.
I would encourage you to create a support ticket regarding a disk space quota based function not working.

Thank you Grover -- I agree that reading the links on the left side of the Forum page would be helpful, but I do not choose to spend my time reading 'useful links' on a forum. I use forums to communicate my issues. If my communications are not technically or politically correct, then I simply will not receive solutions. It is disappointing that Acronis does not monitor their own User Forum; that sends a signal about their level of concern. I clearly understand why they cannot respond to each post; that is simply not practical. Reading the posts, however, seems to me would be very practical. Many Companies spend tens of thousands $$ (or more) for user feedback.
"In all of my personal use and testing, I have found the cleanup functions that work best is where the cleanup is based on controlling the number of backups." That is good to know. It suggests that some methods do not work at all, but that cleanup based on controlling the number of backups works most of the time (works best). All the methods should either work as publicized, or be appropriately noted in release notes.
I sincerely do appreciate your response. Based on other posts to this forum, creating a support ticket with Acronis does not generate much progress toward solutions. Perhaps after decades of working with/in IT, my perspectives and expectations are unrealistic.
