Build 6857 ... Nothing appears in "Configure" section of Disk Backup window
I just "upgraded" from TI Home 2011 build 6696 to build 6857 a couple of hours ago, but now have a MAJOR problem.
I have five partitions which I regularly back (manually) up to an external hard drive. But, with build 6857 running from within Windows 7, when I select "Disk and partition backup" from the main screen and the Disk Backup window opens, nothing appears in the "What to back up" section, no matter whether I select disk mode or partition mode (see screenshot). I am able to backup from the Recovery Disk, but I shouldn't have to do that.
Any thoughts?

Grover ...
Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry I'm so tardy in getting back to you, but I neglected to check the "Notify me" box.
I have three entries for Acronis in my Services, but "Disk Management Service" isn't one of them. They are: "Nonstop Backup Service", "OS Selector activator", and "Scheduler2 Service".
The first time I tried to run the installation program, no Repair option was available. Instead, I got the error message seen in the accompanying screenshot.
So, I uninstalled TI, removed all traces of it from the Registry, and reinstalled it. But, again, the situation described in my initial post presented itself. When I checked Services, "Acronis Disk Management Service" wasn't present.
I ran the installation program again and, this time, the Repair option appeared. When it completed I rebooted, but "Acronis Disk Management Service" still doesn't appear in Services, and I still have no entries in "What to back up".
I'm afraid that it's time to go back to build 6696.

Jim,
Are these services running?
COM + Application, Volume Shadow Copy, Distribution Transaction Coordinator

Hi Pat,
All of them were set to manual, and none were running. I changed them to automatic and rebooted, but everything remains the same ... "Acronis Disk Management Service" still doesn't appear in Services, and I still have no entries in "What to back up".

With these services enabled (and the Windows Installer service set to manual, like the default), try to uninstall and reinstall ATI.
If this doesn't work, I am running out of ideas.
In ATI 2011, I don't think there is an Acronis Disk Management Service. I cannot verify as I don't have ATI on the machine I am using now.

My Windows Installer service is set to automatic (I haven't changed it) ... should that make any difference?

RE: acronis disk management service
Yes, it is possible my setting is from another Acronis program and not from the 2011 TIH version.

I left the Windows Installer service in Automatic (which is where it was), and uninstalled TI. After re-installation, the situations remains as it was ... I still have no entries in "What to back up".

Jim,
I have seen your attachment above showing now devices. Just curious. What happens if you attempt to access the disk mode at the top of the blank screen?
Have you checked the Events log for Windows errors?

Hi Grover,
As I stated in my initial post, "nothing appears in the "What to back up" section, no matter whether I select disk mode or partition mode". (I hope that didn't sound pissy! 8-))
I don't see anything in the Events viewer that would apply. The only references to TI are purely informational.

Let's try a more radical uninstall. Uninstall, run the cleanup utility, reboot and reinstall.

You are fine if the windows installer service is on manual. As long as it is not disabled.
Did you disable or tweaked any Windows service? If yes, you should google default services default and try again.

It took me a long time to sort through all of the verbiage and understand exactly what needed to be done, but it worked.
I HAD, in fact, done some tweaking of the Services while attempting to get my Win7 desktop computer to communicate with my XP Pro laptop, so I reset those Services to the default settings as outlined on Black Viper's website.
The documentation for the Cleanup Utility implies that it removes all traces of Acronis products, but that definitely is NOT true. Between True Image and Disk Director (which it also removed), over 570 Registry entries were left behind. After deleting them I re-installed TI, which now works like it's supposed to.
Thank you both for your help and your patience. Personally, I'd have given up long ago and just re-installed build 6696.

Jim,
Could you share the name of the services that you disabled or changed?

Hi Pat,
I'm afraid not. I should have taken notes, I suppose, but I didn't. All of the changes I had made came about as the result of rather exhaustive online searches related to networking a Win7 computer with an XP computer.
I've been a user of XP Pro for more than ten years, using the Windows Classic view and a heavily tweaked and highly customized Start menu. I work almost exclusively from the Start menu and from within Windows Explorer, and have only a couple of icons on my Desktop.
I absolutely hated Win7's interface when I first installed it, and immediately began tweaking it so that it looked and behaved as much as possible like the interface I was used to. I firmly believe that newer does not necessarily mean better, and the Gnomes of Redmond would have a hard time recognizing that my desktop computer is running Win7.
Strangely enough, after going through Black Viper's list of the default Win7 SP1 Services settings, and re-setting all of my changes to the defaults, the two computers are now communicating (which they weren't before), and I can now transfer files in either direction from either computer. The world of Windows is strange, indeed.
Again, thanks for your help. I'd never have figured it out on my own.
