Using Grub4DOS to Create a Bootable Drive

Thread needs solution

Hi,
I'm stuck on one of the final steps to create such a bootable drive.
Attached is a capture where I indicated my problem.
Can someone explain me the required steps to run Acronis Media Builder.
By the way, I'm not even sure what AMB is. Is it the recovery disc???
Thank you.

Media builder is a part of installation, like Agent or Console. You will be able to select flash drive as the destination, like you can select CD, when it asks where to place the result.

Thanks dev -anon.
But I'm still confused about the Media Builder. I'm using Acronis Home 2011 Plus Pack.
How do I get the Acronis Media Builder, from that version?

In start menu - true image home - tools and utilites - bootable rescue media builder. Or in the program itself - tools and utilities under 'protection tools' section. If you didn't uncheck it during installation, then you will have to run the installer again and use 'modify' installation to add it.

I also own True Image Home 2010 .In either version, did I find ''Acronis Media Builder''.
I finally found another tutorial that I successfully used to create my bootable USB key.I used method # 1 , of course as method #2 contains the same issue I'm faced with.
Thanks for your help, anyway.

Babac,
After you installed TrueImage Home, if you created a TI Rescue CD, then you have already used the Media Builder.
Note the link below and look at item #4, this shows the selection of the CD but if you wanted to create an ISO file, you would simply choose the ISO option rather than the CD option.

The plus pack is an option part of the TrueImage install. The plus pack is installed as a second install after you have TrueImage installed. If you look in the help/about section, it will indicate whether PlusPack is installed. If installed, when you create a REscue CD or a Rescue iso file, pluspack will be part of the options offered at time of option selection as to what is to be included in the building of the file.

Section 1 and 3 is very easy to implement. you can ignore section2 if you do section 3. You do not need to create a bootable Aconris device if you use the Section 3 part and create Trueimage iso files rather than bootable usb devices. The key is make the device Grub4Dos bootable.

I have 3 different setups using Grub4Dos set up to do the following

1. Use Grub4Dos to boot an an internal hard drives (my internal drive F)

2. Use Grub4Dos to boot an external USB hard drive

3. Use Grub4Dos to boot a usb Flash drive.

All of the above are configured to be bootable into Grub4Dos--not bootable into TrueImage.

All 3 are identical in this respect, once booted into Grub4Dos, choose from a Grub4Dos menu (MENU.LST), as to which version (among many different versions) that I want to start of TrueImageHome.

This involves making the internal disk; or an external usb disk; or a Flash Drive to be bootable into Grub4Dos. Up to this point, TrueImageHome has not been involved. Section 1 of reference covers making the device Grub4Dos bootable.

Section 3:
Where TrueImage comes into play is that you use the TI Bootable media builder (Windows installed version) to create an iso file rather than build a bootable CD. This iso file (Acronis content) is then copied into a folder on the Grub4Dos device. I have multiple iso files from multiple recent versions of TIH. So after booting inito Grub4Dos and from the resulting Grub4Dos menu, I can choose to boot into version 2011 or version 8 or any version inbetween. I have also added iso files created from/by Mustang's PE builder.

So, the usage procedure overall procedure is :
1. Boot into Grub4Dos bootable device.(flash drive or hard drive) Boot time is a few seconds.
2. From the Grub4Dos menu, select the TIH menu listing for which TI version(iso file) is to load. My Grub4Dos menu offers 23 choices.
3. Clicking the menu selection will cause a reboot very similar or identical to what you see when the CD is used for booting into Acrons--except the boot time will be much quicker.

Sample of my Grub4Dos menu (Rename Menu.txt to Menu.LST) Use Notepad to edit or read.

Addendum:
If you have any prior versions of the TI Rescue CD and want to add these to your Grub4Dos menu, you can use the free ImgBurn software to create an iso file from the CD. Afterwards, copy the new iso file onto your Grub4Dos device and add the menu item of an old Rescue CD.

Thanks Grover,
Yes, I actually created a Rescue Cd when I installed both versions of True Image.
I was trying to create a bootable USB key from the Mudcrab tutorial. I got stuck in the final step where it says ''Run Acronis Media Builder'' as you would do normally''...
I still don't know what Acronis Media Builderis , although ,I asked the question in my first post.
I hope somebody will be able to explain to me what it is , clearly...

Section 3 deals with setting up Grub4DOS and using ISO files. You're referring to Section 2, which requires the "normal" Acronis media files. Section 2 isn't used if you use Section 3.

"Media Builder" is just the name of the program Acronis uses to create the rescue media (CD, flash drive, etc.). It can be launched directly from TI (or DD) or from the Start menu.

Thanks Mudcrab,
I understood everything contained in your tutorial on Grub4DOS, except the so called ''Acronis Media Builder''.
With your plain explanation on that media, every thing is now clear for me.

Both links are the same program, just different versions. Use the 2009-06-20 version (the second link).

Why there are are two links then?

Because some versions of Grub4DOS worked better than others. I had problems with several and mainly used a couple of the versions. I recommend trying the latest version first. Other versions can also be found on the download page (link shown in the blue box just below the orange one). In any case, you do also need to download the Installer since the main package doesn't include it.

Ok .Thank you.
