TI Home 2011: E-mail notifications stopped
I'm using TI Home 2011 build 6857 with the Plus Pack, but the problem started with the previous build.
I used to get e-mail notifications when a backup finished, but they suddenly stopped. I can send test messages until the cows come home, but my backups are silent. They seem to be working, but I don't get any messages. I have every possible setting turned on.
The last message I got reported an error, and not the usual kind:
13 Error 5/23/2011 11:05:28 PM Operation with partition '3-0' was terminated.

I think the error came from the backup target getting full. I did some consolidations after that.
The backups do seem to be running every night, according to the log. My concern is that I don't get the e-mails anymore.

Jerry,
Did you check that you are supposed to received emails even when the backup succeeds (blue link that says Additional notification settings)?

Yes, everything is checked.
Remember, I was getting the e-mails right along until they just stopped. The only thing that happened was that I got that funky error message (posted above).

Are your backups running now? Or are the notifications only missing?

The backups are running. Only the notifications are missing.

Jerry,
If you can get the test emails, your backups are going through, but the notifications are not working, you should export your backup settings, uninstall, reboot and reinstall. If this doesn't solve it, I am running out of ideas.

I exported my settings, uninstalled, etc., etc.
I can still send test messages, but I'm not getting any notifications.
I suppose it's possible that something in my settings is damaged, and that damage came back when I imported my saved settings. I just don't know how to proceed at this point.

Jerry,
Just a last check. When you go to the backup options, under notifications, you have the advanced settings. Is the option to be notified when the backup is successful checked?
If you can send test emails but it is not working, it looks like the system account is prevented from either accessing the ports but not the user account. That could be a firewall or other security software interfering.

The option to be notified when the backup is successful is indeed checked.
I'll try to figure out if my firewall is blocking things.
Thanks for the suggestion.

This is an example of mine in both XP and Win7 which works. This is from a script in the scripts folder.
<notify>
<email address="full_address_to_receive_message" enabled="1" encryption-type="none" from="" long_format="1" password="encrypted" pop-before-smtp="false" pop-server="" pop-server-port="0" server="outgoing.verizon.net" server-port="25" subject="Acronis True Image Home Notification from GROVERS-RACER" user="email_user_name for outgoing port">
<notify_mode full_log="true" operation_complete="true" operation_fail="true" operation_message="true" />
</email>
</notify>
Perhaps you might edit your script file in Notepad and compare and change in Notepad--if needed.

I'll see you yours and raise you mine:
<notify>
<email address="jerryschwartz@comfortable.com" enabled="1" encryption-type="none" from="" long_format="1" password="001F4mJyMD5m4vgJJVDkW6hN6u^" pop-before-smtp="false" pop-server="" pop-server-port="0" server="smtp.comcast.net" server-port="25" subject="Acronis True Image Home Notification from Mail-Hub" user="jerryschwartznewb">
<notify_mode full_log="true" operation_complete="true" operation_fail="true" operation_message="true" />
</email>
</notify>
It looks similar to yours.

It seems we have a "draw". Does your password also contain a control Key?
Any chance you have access to a log file from when the feature was working?
If you haven't done this, I would do a repair install overthe top of the existing installation.

Control key? There is a ^ in it.
Um, old logs? They're in my backups.
I did a complete remove/reinstall, and it didn't help.
There doesn't seem to be anything helpful in the logs. Even when I know it sent me a message (because the backup failed), there's nothing in the log that seems to point to a notification event.

Jerry,
You might try changing the port 25 to port 465
Is user="jerryschwartznewb" correct for the smtp.comcast.net setting
465 came from here.

My ISP's SMTP servers don't allow 465.
Don't forget, the test messages go out.

I found the solution!
This is bizarre!
I had sent myself some e-mail from my work address to my home address, and today I went looking for it. I discovered that I could not get any messages sent from work to my home.
I checked my ISP settings, and I had spam filtering turned off there.
Now, I use a mail forwarding service (mail.com) so that I have a perpetual e-mail address. In fact, I've had the same e-mail address since 1997; but I hadn't looked at the associated web site in years. I just had everything set up to be forwarded on, renewed by credit card, and on I went.
Well, there in my spam folder on mail.com were all of the TI notifications for the last few weeks! (My e-mail from work was there, too.) Why on earth the test messages were getting through, but the status messages were not, I have no clue. I also have no clue why this suddenly started, but that's a secret known only to the spam filter heuristics.
Thanks for your help along the way.
