Malware disabled privicy and true image
My wife downloaded stupid couponbar and AdwarPro, Mywebsearch and Funweb came with it. Parisites could not be run with a runtime unexpected error. True image clone would select the source C: and the destination D: . Everything fine until after the boot. An error comes back and says "Disk could not be found". I have uninstalled and installed both programs. The same results after. Malware is gone but these conditions still persists. XP Pro SP2. How can this be fixed? Any help would be appreciated

Thanks for the reply. I did restore the day before the download. To no avail. Getting all the files took some time using different malware detects. I finally had to Repair the system files. Question? Should not a reinstall fix Trueimage and Privacyexpert? I have even checked for rootkits. Still the problem exists. Both of my harddrives are in Devicemgr and detected by Clone. They are both the same size 40G. They are primary and slave. What does Clone check during the reboot function? I am somewhat knowlegeable with hardware and software, but not with the insides of these programs so to speak.

When you use the Clone feature in Windows and the reboot occurs I think it is only so that any windows activities are frozen during the cloning - that would be my guess. I don't do clones, only Backups (Images) and I use the Rescue CD for this.
What version and build of True Image are you using?
I would think that a reinstall would do just that - reinstall the software. I'm not familiar with Privacy expert.

Thanks I am running image 8.0 build 937. It is the last one. I have been cloning for years now at least twice a month. Never had any trouble until the malware hit. I might add not only did it mess up acronis it also rendered Mysecuer also. I used it to keep the cookies I wanted to keep and errace all of the rest automatically. It has some other features for online security.

If you want to keep using that version, to get it to reinstall correctly, you may have to do a manual clean out of the Registry - always risky if you're not careful. But if you're game, search the Registry for anything that has Acronis and True Image and delete.

I am game. I have used regedit a bit. That has not crossed my mind. Ill let you know. I have gone into regedit to see if anything was out off order on the two programs. I have even gone into the program files, but I cant read any file.

Well After all the backup and unistalls there is no usage. I had to backup the regestry and also made a ASR. Went back to the original 791 disk and it still does not work. I think Acronis wants me to upgrade. Ha I think I will try image 10 on trial to see. Thanks for your help. If there are anyone that may know this problem please post.
