installation got interrupted try again

Thread needs solution

I am using Win 7 Ultimate and Acronis stop working by saying that the application is not responding.
I have tried to uninstall, but it said that there was something corrupt in the settings.
I then delete the entire application and all references in the registry. The only area I was not able to delete in registry is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - Software - Acronis - Schedule got an error: Cannot delete Scheduler: Error while deleting key.

So when I tried to reinstall again it keeps saying the installation got interrupted and that I should try again. After 10 times I gave up.

Any ideas?

Slava,

Did you have a previous version of True Image on your PC?

The first thing to check is that your Windows Temp folder is empty, as you are on W7 you will find it c:\users\your_user_name\AppData\Local\temp. Delete everything here that Windows will allow.

Then try again - if there is still a problem post again here as there will be a 'part 2' in that case.

Make sure that you are logged in with Admin authority and that your Firewall isn't blocking the installation, if you also use the UAC I would temporarily switch it off, though that shouldn't be causing a problem with 2011.

Thanks Colin,

I did not have any other versions installed on my laptop. Keeping in mind that this application did work and then stopped.
I have followed your instructions and deleted as much as possible from the temp folder and disabled windows firewall. I also have admin privileges. And I am using version 2010.

OK,

So is it installed at the moment?

If it is, then run the installer again and select repair, if it isn't then you need to make an installation log which hopefully will record where the problem lies.

First you need to extract the MSI installer file. To do that you need to click on the Acronis installer and wait for the splash screen that has the choices, Install, Check for update, and Download the user guide. Right click on the install option and select 'extract', extract the MSI installer to a folder of your choice. Then download the attached batch file and put it in the same folder.

Run the batch file - if the installation fails agian, you will now have a log file, make sure you remove your serial number and email address from the file if it or they exist and post the file here. It should be about 3MB in size.

Remove the _.txt from the file name.

No, it is not installed.
I have followed your instructions and the log file attached.
Thank you.

Slava,

Do you have any installation restriction policies on your PC?

No, I was running the installation as administrator as well as under my account. I have also admin privileges.
Thank you.

Hello Slava and Colin,

Thank you very much for posting and thank you very much for helping Colin. I will definitely help you with this issue.

It appears that the installation fails because there some traces of our software left in the registry and they cannot be updated properly. I can recommend the following solution:

1. Run the Acronis True Image 2011 Home clean up utility to get rid of all the program traces.

2. Install the latest build of the program, which is 5519.

3. If it fails, please generate a new msi log and this report and kindly send me a private message with them so that I can analyze them.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you.

Hello Anton,
I am having trouble install in ATI 2011 on my Win Prof. x64; I have tried everything, cleaning up the %TMP%, cleanup utility, also deleted all the registries related to Acronis. Not able to install the ATI 2011.
I tried to do the upgrade from 2010 to 2011 failed. Deleted the 2011 and tried to clean install 2011 failed. If I go back and install 2010 it works, but not able to install the 2011. Please help, I spend couple of weekends trying to get this to work. I am attaching my install_log.txt.
I am using ATI products for past 6 year, just can't install 2011...don't know why this is so difficult.

Appreciate anything you can do to resolve this issue.

Try to first uninstall the Plus Pack under the letter U in the control panel, then Acronis 2010. Reboot. Then try to install 2011 again.

Hello Kmaniyar and Pat,

Thank you for posting and I appreciate your help Pat.

Kmaniyar, let me help you as well please. According to the log the installation fails with this error:

1: MSIGEN:Error occured during CheckForUpgradeCode for {BB812720-62FC-466F-BB97-4230E06982FE}: 1605
CustomAction DetectMsiMajorUpgradables returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)
Action ended 12:58:32: DetectMsiMajorUpgradables. Return value 3.

It indicates that our software failed to upgrade one of its components. In order to resolve it you will need to write the registry value in reverse, find it and delete. You can use this KB article for more information. (search for upgradecodes).

1. Press start->run->type: regedit and press OK.

2. Click on Edit at the top and select Find.

3. Search for this registry key and once you find it, please delete it:

027218BB-CF26-F664-79BB-EF28960E0324

If the installation still fails I would appreciate if you could get back to me with a new installation log and a Windows System Information file.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
