Backup and Recovery 10 SBS image backup

Thread needs solution

Does Backup and Recovery 10 SBS back up running services such as sql during the 'image' backup, or do you have to run pre-commands to turn them off?

Hi Ptlpianoman

When backing up any server with MS SQL, Exchange Oracle always ensure that you have VSS enabled as this will flush open transactions to disk then snapshot and allow you to have a consistent backup image. As long as your database application is VSS aware you should not have any issues, if it’s not VSS aware you could always run pre-post data capture scripts to stop the database, create the snapshot, re-start the database then perform the backup.

Another thing to keep in mind is IF your database is split over multiple volumes, eg, Drive D (Database) and Drive E (transaction logs) you also need to ensure multi-volume snapshot is enabled as this snapshot technology will allow Acronis to snapshot more than one volume at the same time!
