i wish i could ask a better question but i just dont have much to go on,
my searching wasnt very fruitful
i guess i must have cheched yes to windows integration when i first installed atih11 but dont recall doing so
anyway i just found out it IS integrated

so my overly gerneral question is: should i leave it integrated or not?

okay
i found some more information
i realize now there are 3 types of windows integration
the one i am concerned with is the backup integration
the other two seem fine

The backup integration is replacing the Win 7 backup interface by the ATI backup list, essentially. I personally use Win 7 backup in parallel to ATI, so I always disable it.
Earlier builds had some issues with this integration: upon uninstalling ATI, Win 7 backup UI was not working any longer, although scheduled backups would run anyway... A registry hack was necessary to correct this... Seems like the problem is gone.

I have pretty much had it with Acronis. Every time I install a new version, it integrates with Windows back and I do NOT want this. I have tried 20 ways from SUnday to disable Acronis integration with WIndows back and it refuses to work. This happens every time I get a new version. So far I have found no way to convince Acronis True Home 2012 to disable integration with WIndows backup. I have tried all the tricks listed on the forums with the registry editing and the Win7 backup keys zip file. It would not complete and nothing happened. I am just going to uninstall Acronis when I finish attempting to convert the last backup to a Windows backup. The first time I tried to install the 2012 version, it locked up my computer, I had to pull the plug and it would no longer start. Acronis bottable disk was useless... kept saying backups were corrupt and I know dang well they are not. I finally had to restore my system with a Windows 7 restoration emergency disk. Acronis was no help at all. If you are having the same problems, I would just uninstall Acronis and use something else, IF you can get Acronis to unistall. I had to manually delete it the last time I tried that. It refused to uninstall with Windows programs control. You can't use it, and you can't get rid of it. It won't go away, and even if you do, Windows backup might still not work. Why did I waste my money?
