Bugs in Pre-Post command option
TIH2011/6868 - In an attempt to trouble shoot another problem (lack of E-mail Notifications), I worked with the Pre-Post command options and discovered another bug. I had been using the Post command to shutdown the system after backup, since the other Shutdown option provided by Acronis does not work in Vista or W7. I just added a Pre command to send a message at the start of backup and tested the function, which worked.
When I reexamined the existing Post command (to shutdown the machine 2 minutes after the backup job completed, I found that the command 'Shutdown' had been replaced with 'MSG'. I had to manually fix the post command, then double checked the Pre command in order to get both the Pre and Post commands correct.
This is not just silly, it demonstrates the lack of testing performed on TI functionality by the development staff and possibly the Q/A staff, if such exists.
I am becoming very concerned about the quality of the TI product and have developed some lingering doubts about the reliability of the restore function, should I ever be required to use it.

Thanks, but a programmatic solution for my requirements would be overkill.
I simply want to send a message at the start of the backup task [MSG command] using a 'Pre' command, and then shutdown the computer [Shutdown command] after the backup task has completed, using the 'Post' command. Simply stated, there is a bug in the Acronis code which overwrites the Pre or Post command with whatever command was entered last. When I added the Pre command to send a message, Acronis code overwrote the contents of the Post command. When I fixed the Post command back to Shutdown, Acronis code overwrote the Pre command with Shutdown.

It's not a programmatic solution, but would be a more correct way of using custom commands in Acronis. For instance, if you want to shut down the computer, create a text file called shutdown.bat and save it to your hard drive. Then run that batch file from the "Post-command" area in Acronis. The batch file would only have to have one line in it:
SHUTDOWN /s /t 000
(This is the Win7 format of the shutdown command.)
No programming involved.

I get it.
A more correct way of using custom commands than actually issuing the command? Come on. Adding another command level, no matter how trivial, is not the solution.
Support at Acronis told me to enter the shutdown command directly in the Post command field and it works. The problem is that also entering a Pre command overwrites the contents of the Post command. The reason for using the Post command at all is because the Acronis provided Shutdown option does not work.
Thanks anyway...

AZMoosie,
When entering the Pre or the Post command, there is down arrow window selection where the user can select from other pre or post commands entered previously. If the wrong command is in the window, open the window and select the correct command. You can have different pre and post commands but sometimes it takes a little tweaking.
Let me know.

@AZMoosie
So much of dealing with this software has been workarounds to bugs, so I was only trying to offer one that works just fine for me. I'm sorry the workaround, for whatever reason, isn't a good idea for you.
Good luck!
