True Image 2012 Not Opening if Norton Internet Security 2011 is Running

Thread needs solution

As per subject. True Image refuses to run/open with AV software running. Adding True Image to the exceptions list in Norton makes no difference?

David,

On my system, I had to turn off Norton 360 V5 to get ATI 2012 install correctly. You might want to try a repair install of ATI while Norton Security is completely off (clean boot) and see if it makes a difference.

And you might need to mark aTI as an allowed program in Norton.

I had so much trouble with what Norton would and wouldn't allow, that I just gave up using it -- it was causing me more disruption than any virus -- I guess that's why the expression: "Norton security IS the virus."  ;)  But with a little effort, you should be able to make Nort and ati play together nicely.

I have used NIS 2011 and now NIS2102 and had no trouble with either version and ATIH 2011/12 neither do I have to turn it off to do an install. It all seems to work without issue.

Just FYI... I appreciate you may have a problem but is it really NIS that is causing it?

NIS is notorious for being one of the most obtrusive pieces of software around. The fact that several have reported workarounds involving NIS indicates a real issue. Great that it works on your set up.

Btw, please don't dobule post if you can avoid it. AT least go back and edit out the duplicate. thanks,

Scott,

A number of people seem to have double posts - it is not as far as I am aware my issue. I am sure others will feel the same. You know how many posts I have made so this is a one off that I was not aware had happened as it did not show when I made the original reply.

Why are you so touchy?

Sorry Scott, but i beg to differ, just because a workaround has been posted doesnt mean that NIS is the problem, in fact looking at this forum and the amount of workarounds, uninstall, cleanup, reinstall, stand on your head while waving your acronis box in the air.
i would say the poblem is ATI not wanting to play ball with most programs on the market, including windows!

i have been using NIS for years and have never had a problem, yet as soon as i upgrade TI i get nothing but problems from start to finish.

It works for some and it doesn't work for others. Soemtimes a quick and easy resolve is to mark the program as allowed in the security software. Also, it sometimes helps to turn of security software when install a program with lowlevel drivers -- this would include disk imaging programs, opti drive burner software, and oths.

Taken from my private message.

Im sorry but i still say that Acronis is at fault here, in fact if its so important to turn of the security software before installing then why doesent TI give you some sort of warning, rather than letting you install it and have more problems!! Its like the upgrade problem, time & time again ive seen people saying you should uninstall TI 2011 before upgrading to TI 2012, yet the software is quite happy to try and install itself over the top, all this points to some very badly coded software & documentation.
