universal restore of windows 7 : windows search doesn't work anymore

Thread needs solution

hello, both with version 10 and 11 of ABR , imaging a windows 7 on a workstation and restoring this image to a notebook, result in a fully working system on notebook, but with the trouble that windows search doesn't work anymore.

i tried to delete a key from registry like described here:

http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-fix-windows-7-search-problems/

but is not working, since this reg key is not existing on the system.

i tried also this fix:

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_search/en-us

but this don't work... after all it says "repair completed" but the search is not working again.

the search simply doesn't find anything. it seems the search doesn't even start. on the start bar search, the whole menu remain gray, it doesn't appear anything.

the strange thing is that a month ago, i restored the same workstation to the notebook (obviously the workstation was in the situation of 1 month ago, not this actual) and all worked good.

Hello Raffaele,

Thank you for your post. I will do my best to assist you.

If you do not mind, I would like to ask you for additional information regarding this issue to help us localize the problem.

Does this happen only on this notebook and does it happen every time you restore a Windows 7 image?

Did you get this problem on other notebooks by any chance? Was Windows search working on the source machine from which the backup was taken?

Looking forward to your reply and if you have additional questions please let me know.

Thank you.

yes, this happen only on this notebook, every time i restore this actual windows 7 image, both with abr 11 and abr 10

previously on the same notebook, with abr 10, and a previous version of image of desktop pc from which to start (taken some month ago i mean) , the process went ok.

but the strange thing is that on the desktop pc , the search is working ok!! even now!

i tried also using a competitor solution, storagecraft 4.1.5 . here all went ok, the search is working, but this solution cannot change the sid. i must change it manually with sysprep, but at reboot the process blocks himself for an error.

so i want to use ABR, because it change the sid. but in this case it disable the windows search!!!!

i found another error.... at the first start of cloned system, it always says "recycle bin in c:\ corrupted, do you want to empty?" and clicking yes, i can't empty all, because some files the system says i have not the permissions... but i'm admin !
in the source pc, there are not these troubles , and cloning the source pc with e.g. storagecraft doesn't create these troubles (but of course it doesn't change the sid ) . maybe these trouble related to change of sid ????

hello, however cloning a new installed windows 7 worked flawlessy !

maybe the previous windows 7 system was already corrupted so acronis was unable to fully clone it.
