Nonstop Backup with ATIH and Avira

Thread needs solution

Am I right assuming that Nonstop Backup does still not work with Avira Antivirus running? Thanks in advance.

If anybody knows the answer to my question: I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

MaTsch,

Do you have the free version or full version of Alvira?

I know there used to be a problem with 2010/11 with the free version of Alvira and TIH.

Colin,

I use the Premium (paid) version. The problem is or was this: http://kb.acronis.com/content/16376
I wonder whether both companies still just lean back and wait for the other one to act. What a pity. I actually bought ATIH because of Nonstop Backup.
It is almost unbelievable that this problem might still exist after such a long time and after so many promises to fix it. On the other hand... when I see all those other complaints on the board...

G. Uphoff, that would be great. I hope you're right. Just to make sure: You're using the Nonstop Backup functionality of ATIH together with Avira and it works, right? (Not just disk imaging or simple file based backups.)

Actually I hoped I could (nonstop) backup my whole data partition, that's something over 400 GB, or even the whole disk, that's 500 GB. After all that's what Acronis used to advertise would be possible.

Yes, 120 and 400... that's quite a difference. And I shy away from just trying it again without having heard from someone who did it successfully. I've lost way too much time in the past because of ATIH. So if someone was indeed successful - or not - with about my setting, please just let me know.

Eingebaute Festplatte? Externe USB Festplatte? NAS?

Woraus bestehen die 400 GB? tib Images? installierte Programme? Videos?

Yes, it's the HP Elitebook 8530w with Intel Core 2 Duo T9600, 4 GB RAM; Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (German).
It should be backed up to an external USB hard disk drive. (At some point in the future I will switch to a NAS, but not near-term.)
Drive D: Data: Consists of about 300 GB media files and about 100 GB various other user data.
Drive C: OS and installed programs. Unfortunately also emails and system/program settings. Therefore I hoped to include this partition in the nonstop backup as well.

Of course I make disk images of these partitions onto other USB HD drives every one or two weeks and store them externally. But for automatic every-day backups the nonstop backup feature of ATIH feature seemed just perfect - at least on paper.

Wow, thank you so much for your efforts, G. Uphoff!

Yes, that is what I experienced as well, back then when I tried to make it work (many months ago). It just switched itself off and there was no way to make it work again (or only for a very short time).
But I am not sure it is just a question of data volume as you suggest. Sure, first ATIH has to make a full backup of all the data. That takes quite some time. In some rare cases ATIH even managed to complete that first task. But after that ATIH should only monitor any changes and accordingly update the backup. That's usually not that much data and should be manageable. Therefore I guess it was and seemingly still is really some kind of conflict between ATIH and Avira that makes it impossible for ATIH to perform its duty. What a pity...

Is there an Acronis representative reading here? Any comments? I paid for the software, I lost dozens of hours (and almost my temper) and I would be really interested in getting the latest news on this matter. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
