failed to read from sector 0 drive 0... on restore (ATI Home 2011)

Thread needs solution

I've seen some threads on 'failed to read from sector...' in this forum but not exactly what I have and not all on restore. When I try to restore I get the above error message. I get no indication that it's on my C: drive or my external drive. I've shutdown and run 'chkdsk /r' on my C: drive but it passed just fine. My backups are on an external hard drive attached via eSata card in my laptop.

I also get the same error for 'drive 1'. I suppose that's my D: drive but again no indication from the error message.

Has anyone seen this issue before with a similar configuration? Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Ken

ARe you trying to restore form within windows or from the bootcd -- whichever you tried, try the other an see if that works.

IF you are having this prob with the bootcd but have no probs backing up, it probalby means that the linux implementation on the bootcd doesn't have the right drivers for your hardware set up. You can try making a bart disk -- that will use windows and windows drivers.

Or try downloading the iso for the bootcd from the acronis website and burning it to disk-- it often has slightly diff driver set.

Scott,
I'm trying the restore from the bootcd. I had assumed that when I created the bootcd on my system that it picked up correct drivers. Guess I did not think about Linux drivers. Had trouble getting machine to boot at all but finally was able to find a system restore point that worked. I'll check on the iso download. What is a 'bart' disk and how do I make one?

I'm trying to restore a DELL XPS-M170 laptop.

Thanks,
Ken

The bootcd is a self-contained package with linux, drivers, and the loader and program. It doesn't use any drivers from your system.

You can downlaod the bart package from the acronis website after you log in and go to the updates page. go to the user guide for info on creating a Brt disk.
