How to specify number of Incremental Backups?
ATIH11.0 bld 8,022 under Win7 Ult x64.
I'm trying to set up a schedule of 1 full backup followed by a specified number of incremental backups. Although the manual states that this is an option I cannot find where or how to specify the required number.
What am I missing please?
Assuming that I can set the schedule up to run on a particular day of the week, will/should it start automatically, or do I have to ensure that it's running at the prescribed time?

The program actually runs on Win7 x64 and I've taken several backups manually, but I just don't see the screens shown in the later 2 links.
This is what I think is the equivalent on my V11
If it doesn't support Win7 then why does it run at all?

The batch files I posted will do everything you need, including providing fine-grained control of any number of backup generations (1 full image plus n incremental or differential). Do not attempt to use ATI for anything other than disk imaging, i.e. stay away from secure zones, job scheduler, try & decide, auto-delete of image files, encrypted backups, and so on.

Just because it runs doens't mean it works correctly.
You're more likely to get it to make a backup than to be able to make it do a restore properly. At the least, you'll probably have mbr/track0- alighment issues with a restore. ATI11 was made to work with Vista but predated w7 by a couple of years.
IF I was going to rely on it, I'd want to do a full test restore on a spare disk. Better to know now if you can restore than later.

Gary,
Some functions may work but general support for Windows 7 did not begin until the 2010 version. Even the version (2009) after version 11 did not provide full support for Windows 7.

Even version 10 prior to version 11 will work in some instances but was not designed for use with Windows 7.

That's a valid point, and I'll certainly check it out.
What I was trying to say was that I can't see why running on a different platform would remove certain options from the various screens.
I've closely examined the PDF manual that came with the product and on page 65 it clearly states...
"When the first backup on a schedule is executed, a full backup will be created. If the choice
was (2) or (3), the next backups will be incremental (or differential) until the specified number of incremental (differential) backups is reached. After the selected number of incremental or differential backups is made, the next time a new full backup and a set of subsequent incremental (differential) backups will be created; this process will then continue until you decide to change it."
The screens in the manual are identical to those in the program, but nowhere is there any place for specifying the required number. Hence my original query. The manual doesn't seem to reflect reality.

You installed a program under an OS it was not designed to work under. Expect the unexpected. It's not just a matter of drivers. It's a diff kernel, etc.

Well, I didn't think that running under an unsupported OS would remove options from a screen, and guess what, it didn't. I've just taken my old XP-Pro system out of mothballs and tried ATIH11 under it; it made no difference. The option for specifying the number is still missing.
Is there anybody out there who actually knows if the manual is wrong and this feature is simply not available, or what the magic incantation I need to be able to use it is?

If that's the case then I suspect this is a user issue rather than a program performance issue.
Did you create a Backup Location? In ATI 11 the Backup Location is where the user-set limits are created and stored. Note Backup Location doesn't mean merely creating a directory in with explorer, it means creating a special loaction from within ati11, which ati recognizes as having special rules for backup file management.
You should create the Backup Location before you create a task that is going to use the Backup Location. Set the limit based on the number of files. IN later versions that used an internal database instead of Backup Locations, you specify the number of incs directlywhen setting up a task. In the older versions with Backup Locatios, yet set a limt onthe number of files when you create the Backup Location and then set the task to Incremental when creating the task.

Thanks Scott, I think that's the magic incantation I needed.
It seems to be working fine now, but I wish that the manual made it clearer that backup cycles required the use of Backup Locations.

Good luck. It should get easier now.
