Problems with ATIH 2012 Build 6131

Thread needs solution

I have a few issues with the latest version of ATIH. I also have the plus pack which is up to date.

The first is to do with the boot media. When I running ATIH from the boot disk it doesn't seem to work properly. I was trying to do a recovery and it took me a while to figure out that the only way to do it is to select "Recovery" at the first window. If you go into the other tabs. You can select things but nothing seems to do anything. e.g. I select the recovery tab and select a backup. Right click and select Recover and it does nothing. None of the tabs, options or buttons seem to do anything only on the first window.

Then when I do get into a recovery and select a backup it says it can't read it. Thankfully if I select browse and find the files, which are already displayed, it does it that time.

The whole experience is very unnerving.

The other issue I have is after doing my recovery I found on the next Windows shutdown I was getting this message "Operations are in progress. Please wait..." and the PC seemed to freeze. i.e. the cursor doesn't move and the disk activity light is fixed. I left it like this for a few hours and nothing changed so I switched it off in the end. I discovered later that this seems to be to do with the last back I made. Apart from what on earth is going on, it worries me that it may be corrupted?

An oddity. I do a backup of my whole system disk which has 150GB of data on it and it takes around 40 minutes for whole operation (I have RAID 0 SSDs btw). I have a set of large files which I also wanted to backup separately (50GB of virtual PC data). These are located on the same disk and this took 45 minutes. Why would this take longer? I also noted that the progress bar and estimated time left was wildly inaccurate on separate file backup whereas on the full backup it seems to be ok. To actually copy the files in question to the same backup drive takes only 15 minutes btw.

Any ideas on any of this?

Thanks
Mark

Folks,
I just went through 4 days of software hell with this build, 2012.
I have been using Acronis Trueimage software for years, and although there were annoyances with some earlier versions, they worked surely and safely.
This should be shoved back in the oven . It isn't cooked yet.

1) I couldn't get 2012 to see my backups, the new ones I made to experiment, nor the old ones from 2010.
I weny on CHAT with a tech support person, and found out quickly that;
a) he didn't understand what I was saying,
b) He kept insisting that I wanted to know how to do incremental backups when all I wanted to to do was see the backups I made.
c) The program made hundreds of false backup entries in the 2012 view of backups, nut not mine.
d) I also found out that I knew more about TrueImage than he did!

I found a workaround myself.
If I use the default location for the backup (example Y:\MY BACKUP\), then any tib files I placed in there became visible within 2012.
This is nonsense that I cannot create my own location choice for the destination!

Then I saw that my built in digital camera card readers no longer worked.
In collaboration with a friend in the UK using Skype, we managed a workaround there too.
We disabled NON STOP BACKUPS I Control Panel, Admin Tools.

OK... next day!

Why is my CPU at 65% usage?
It's OK when the computer is booted up, but in a few miutes the CPU goes way up, the fans come on full blast, and the computer slows to half speed.
Tracked this down to a DLLHOST.EXE using Task Manager.
Could not END PROCESS.
Ran diagnostics... ran Anti virus scans, malware scans.
I disabled all the auto loading from MSCONFIG.... I even shut down all teh processes that were running, and I did them one by one.
I did a RESTORE/RECOVERY using mt first backup that I made two days ago after I fixed the destination location.
Same result. CPU goes to 65-70% when it wants to.
Each time I tried something like returning NON STOP BACKUPS to Enabled again, I would hope this was it. Reboot, recheck, looking GOOD, so far.
15 minutes,,, still OK.
I walk the dog, and the CPU is back to 65% usage.

Finally my wife says, uninstall that 2012 and see........
I did. She Wins again!
Problem gone. It has been 30 hours.
Next I reinstalled my 2010 version.
AAAHHH!
It worked the first time.
I ran a full backup at 5:30 last evening.
I ran another at 7:30 last evening.
The computer was left on over night: PROBLEMS ARE NO LONGER THERE!

This time the release was so premature as to be an embarrassment.

Epilogue!
For Xmas, my wife and I each bough to give to each other, a KINDLE, from Amazon.
a) Being a new product for me and having to download books from Amazon and the local library, I needed Help.
I called the phone number they offered which advertised an immediate call back...
The phone rang, and a knowledgeable person was on teh phone to walk me through my questions.

b) a few days later, one of the Kindles went squirrely...
I called on the phone, and after running a few resets, he determined my unit was defective.
I hung up at 4:15 PM. They shipped a new one at 4:30 PM. UPS pulled up with my new one at noon the following day.
I got a label from them on line, used the same box from the new one to make the return, and they followed up to make sure that I was a happy customer.

Remember, for every 10 Acronis 2012 programs Acronis sells, Amazon sells 1000 Kindles or more.
It can be done.

Thank you for listening to my frustrations.... mainly no support or response from Acronis.
I love their previous products, but this one...... FIX IT!!!

Hello Mark and Fred,

Thank you very much for your feedback, we really appreciate it!

Mark, I found two cases in our system and they have been marked as resolved. Please let us know if you need additional assistance, you can also contact our Support team directly.

Fred, we are really sorry for the inconvenience. I am sorry that you have experienced difficulties with our software and support, I will forward your comments to our Management team.

In case you need additional help please let me know.

Thank you.

@Anton

After the number of time comments have been forwarded from many forum posts to the management team I would have expected to see some positive action and results but none ever seems to happen.

Do they actually exist?

Are they actually doing anything about the issues?

That is an excellent question.
As you can see, I got a Honey Flavored response from Anton Deev who is probably a very nice man, and is doing what he was told to do; see if you can quiet the angry mob while we figure out what to do.

I have been doing computers for longer than I care to remember. I wrote DOS programs years ago.
When I was informed of a boo boo, I fixed it that night!
I have purchased many pieces of software and found that there were a few bugs... but if the software had serious operational bugs that prevented usage, in 24 hours, a fix, a patch, a revision!
Email any of these people: Qimage, Paint shop Pro, AnyDVD, AVG, Irfanview, Vuescan, Bibble, REMINDME, and you will get a personal email, and a follow up fix.
I'm sure there are more like those I mentioned.
This is unreasonable. I am certain there are a few (2,3,4) programmers responsible for this fiasco.
I got the "Have a nice day" , "We're working on it"reply from Anton weeks after I voiced my complaint.
I wrote a second complaint after I tried Home again, and got Corrupted TIB files.
He hasn't worked his way through the stacks of complaints enough yet to find my later complaint.

Look how quick to accept our money, and how long it takes to fix something.
This is not a sticking windshield wiper motor that has to be redesigned and 10,000 replacements made.
This is software with debugging programs and they have enough reports to categorize on what systems are these problems showing up.
I have W7 64 bit. What do you have>? Collate all the data and make a plan to attack the bad code.

I guess I ranted enough, but Anton, as I said, you are probably a very nice person, but tell your boss that many of us are 2 and 3 months with the unusable and the best we get is, 'Sorry for any inconvenience. We're forwarding your problem to the management!!!"

Tell your boss, we are not that stupid!

Fred Auerbach

@Fred,

2 to 3 months - well mine have been 2 - 3 YEARS so your bugs are way down the queue!
