Acronis True Image Home 2011 - running out of backup space

Thread needs solution

This product was working well - producing nightly incremental backups of my critical files based on an original full backup. When the disk filled up however it failed ... of course.

I was under the impression there was an option to avoid this - something like periodically starting the process again, from a full backup ... and automatically, without me having to worry about it.

I was happy to put thought and time into setting up my backup strategy but, after that, I wanted to forget about it - or am I dreaming?

Few of the backup products around offer automated file management. Ati does, alo it has its problems in its more recent incarnations.

Create a backup task and create a Custom Scheme, you can tell ati to control the number of inc files, number of total files (by age, size or number) -- it's pretty flexible:

Alternatively, there a set of batch files you can use called chain2gen that can be used to automate the backup file management -- should be more reliable than ATI's method. Just search for Chain2gen in this forum or find it in Grover's guides, which are listed onthe left hand of the forum page.

Chain2Gen is most certainly a good option. Or, if you wish to give 2011 another chance (using the most recent build), you could set your options as Scott has suggested--which is illustrated below. Adjust the 6 and 4 to meet your needs. I would avoid the options based on elapsed days or disk space limitations. Set your options to keep x number of recent backup chains--as suggested by Scott.
