Simple Backup Strategy

Thread needs solution

The drive I backup to is 375gb. How can setup an automatic backup so that I don't have to worry about running out of space. Current backup files are just under 105gb.

If you are looking at daily backups:
- custom scheme
- incremental backups
- do a new full every 6 incrementals
- do not store more than 2 backup chains (2 weeks): 3*105GB for the fulls leaves you with about 60 GB for the 12 incrementals which should work if your average incremental is below 5GB

For weekly backups:
- custom scheme
- incremental backups
- do a new full every 3 incrementals
- do not store more than 2 backup chains (2 months)

You can decrease the number of chains to keep if necessary

This is what Pat L was referencing but change the 6 and 4 to fit your needs.

Thanks to both of you. I set the backup options as you indicated. One further question: When I'm finished with the computer I put it into sleep mode. Since Acronis will start automatically, does sleep mode interfer with the backup?

You won't know until it tries. Be aware of this link if needed. This keeps your computer from going to sleep during the backup but has no relation to waking it up.

Also, look at figure 17 at the link below. Be sure your options are set to wake the computer.
