Backup problem

Thread needs solution

After running a backup i go to my computer and click on the backup hard drive(D). What it shows is nothing like what was listed in the past. Backups from last year listed items that are on my primary hard drive(C): Documents and settings-program files-windows-etc. Now the present backups list the following:protect.chinese-protect.hungarian-protect.french and many other languages. What is wrong with the backups? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thankyou.

ARe you talking about directory listings that incude the tib files or the contents of tib files?

When i go to computer i double click on my backup drive which states the letter "J",then i click on My Backups, then click on My_Partitions(1).tib, then i click on My_partitions(1) then i click on the backup hard drive which is the letter "D". That's when i get all the above information. Please advise, thankyou.

Gerard,

Could you post some screenshots of what you are seeing?

On the face of it, it sounds like either a virus has done some work on your PC or you've found a major strangeness in 2012.

Gerard,

I suspect that you have a recovery partition on your computer?

When you double click on the TIB files, you will see partition letters that have been assined to hidden partitions. Check what partitions are included in your backup. If you have several "disks" showing in your backup, open each and compare with the partitions content you seen in partitions visible from the disk management console (to see the console, right click on the computer icon, choose manage, storage, disk management).

Note: the best backup for a system disk is the one that contains all the partitions on the disk where the OS is.
