FTP/SFTP Unmanaged Vault Issue
A little background first:
I have a Synology NAS at a satellite location that receives backups via SFTP from 2 different sources. This system then syncs with another Synology NAS that I have co-located at in my ISPs datacenter. These backups are not from Acronis Backup 11.5, they are preexisting systems with their own backup solutions.
I also have a AB11.5 backup server, dedicated to holding server backups of 2 of my business critical servers (with the AB clients installed). I have a total of 3 backup plans, 2 full volume, and 1 file type. My backups happen every night like magic.
Now I want my Acronis backups to ALSO be stored on my offsite Synology NAS by using the "2nd location" setting in the backup plans.
In the management server console I selected "Vaults". Then I clicked "Create". I gave it a name, the type is unmanaged, and then I clicked "Required" in the path which brought up the "Vault Path" window. I first tried SFTP and entered my Synology's IP and the proper credentials, but it would never connected, the "Access Credentials box would just pop backup. I tried it several times even with another user, both of which I know work (tested with filezilla client).
So I decided to try just FTP. I went through the same process of connecting... and it worked. But I REALLY want SFTP, I guess I'm needy like that. So I clicked on my newly created FTP folder and click "DELETE". I got some error that I dont recall, it was a whole window full of words and hexidecimal values. So I try to delete it again.. same error. At this point I canceled and closed out of the console completely and then went right back in and deleted the FTP folder.
So I think, "AH HA! I will use an SMB share!". I connect to the share from my windows workstation, just to make sure I did have SMB enabled on my Synology NAS. It is at this point my heart sinks and it is very possible my co-workers heard me shout profanity. My backup share on the Synology was completely empty. Not a single file survived.
I started sifting through my Synology logs, and found that all files and folders were deleted a few minutes earlier... everything all at once.
Luckily, the Synology devices were able to restore the backups from a previous version (one of the cloud sync options)... so I am not nearly as angry while typing this post.
While my backups are restoring, I decided to try it out on a test server. I used FileZilla server and a laptop. Added a folder with a text file, and a user. Long story short, if you click "Delete" on a folder in the "Vault Path" window, it will delete everything on your FTP server (i ftp have logs to prove it)... and not simply remove the ftp folder listing in the tree.
I cannot express enough how BAD this behavior of the software is.
Oh and SFTP doesnt work at all. I never connects, it just keeps asking for credentials.
So to recap:
1) Please, for the love of GOD remove the ability of the "Vault Path" window to delete everything on your FTP server. Or at very least put some bold red blinking text warning us that the "Delete" button actually DELETES the data on your FTP server and does not just remove the listing from the folder tree.
2) Fix SFTP Folder thing.
BTW here is the error when deleting an ftp folder (everything on your FTP server!)

I followed the instructions for enabling the ftp/sftp logs (attached image 1regedit.png).
I tried to add an sftp server (attached image 2sftp.png). after I put in username and password, it just pops up the username and password box again... and again... and again... with NO ERROR, it just asks for username and password again.
I verified my credentials and ip address with filezilla (attached image 3filezilla_verified.png).
And then I checked for a log, and found nothing (attached image 4nologs.png).

Hello Jerry,
Do you have anything in the logs on the SFTP server side when this connection is attempted?

In risposta a Hello di truwrikodrorow…

Igor was this ever resolved? I still have 11.5 installed and cannot connect to sftp experiencing the same behavior. Has this been corrected in any subsequent versions?

Hello Russ,
A lot of reported issues with SFTP have been addressed in the latest updates for Acronis Backup 11.7, we'd definitely recommend updating to the build 50242, which is available in your personal account. You can also use this direct link to the installation file http://dl2.acronis.com/s/AcronisBackup_11.7N_50242_en-US.exe
