How to restore a simple backup ? the .tib are not seen by Acronis !

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I did a full backup of my entire laptop hard-drive using Acronis Backup & Recovery v11.5.
Now, I need to recover my entire hard-drive from that backup (using Acronis Backup & Recovery v11.5).

PROBLEM: When I want to specify the location of the .tib to recover, Acronis says there is no .tib file, even so there is a .tib file !!!
How to recover by backup in this condition?

Where do you perform recovery - Windows or bootable media? How did you check that .tib file is there and how *exactly* it says that there is no .tib file?

Acronis Backup & Restore is saying that there is no .tib file in a folder, when there are 2 .tib files in that folder !!

* Here is what you see from Acronis Backup & Recovery:

You are not the first one who can't figure out how to use this new recover dialog of ABR11. The right half here is intentionally empty, you need to click OK that will bring you back to 'data to recover' dialog, where you can use old-style archive view or catalog to select data to recover. If there are no recognized backups, right panel displays a warning 'the selected location doesn't contain backed up data'.

Hi,
Thanks for the info, the ok button is misleading, right.
I have clicked Ok and then I arrived on this window:
but I can not select any of my backups , and the ok button is greyed out.

It looks like your archive is password-protected (padlock overlay icon) and no backups may be shown if password prompt was displayed and you canceled it.

My archived are password protec ted.
I have got that password prompt. I entered my password in it, but then got the window you can see in my previous post. I see nothing, even so my password is correct.

It seems that something is wrong here. If you enter a wrong password, is result the same or the prompt for the password reappears (as it should) ? Are you able to validate this backup?

The password is correct, I can browse the archive with it.
I can not validate the archive now.
BUT when I made the backup I have selected validation after the backup, and Acronis had say my backup was SUCCESSFUL !
So I now need your solution to recover my successful Acronis backups

Does it mean that now you get further than what is displayed on the screenshot you posted?

>I can not validate the archive now.
This may indicate that archive got corrupyed. However it's less likely that both of your full backups are corrupted. Try to rename the .xml file to something else ( e.g. .xml.old), rename catalog folder and try to click 'refresh' button on the screen from the previous screenshot.

I can not go further than the displayed screenshot posted in my previous post.

I have renamed:
- 'Catalog' to 'Catalog.out'
- 'Vizio - CT14-A2.xml' to 'Vizio - CT14-A2.xml.out'

and I have tried to access to my backups. Here is was I get (no files at all are displayed !)

And what happens if you try to validate them? Does validation finish with error or you just can't select an archive to validate? What happens if you double-click on the .tib file in the windows explorer (rename the .xml back before trying it)?

If I try to validate the file, I get an error message when accessing to the file:

I have renamed back the xml and folder. If I double click on the .tib from windows explorer, everything is working nicely: first I am asked for my password, after entering the password I have access to the content of the backup.

I can't see full images in your last post when I click them, it says 'URL périmée'

After you renamed .xml file and tried to restore as you wrote in this comment http://forum.acronis.com/forum/38512#comment-121416 ,
did you press 'refresh' button ? Several times? Anyway, here are two ideas - attach the .xml here (it doesn't contain archive password or any sensitive information except machine name) and contact support :(

Information contained in .xml file seems to be out of sync with .tib files - in .xml 'backed up data size' is 34 GB, but two .tibs totally are larger than it, and are older than modification date of .xml files. Refreshing on recovery screen should have regenerated .xml ( two .xmls, each for a full backup).

I had not press Refresh after renaming the .xml.
By pressing Refresh, I could finally see my .tib files.

Why do you need theses separate .xml ? they make no sense if they can be regenerated using the Refresh button. The only result you get with this is: user unfriendliness.

I have tried to recover from the archive but I get the error message: what can I do?

If they are indeed corrupted, all you can do is to try to restore most important files from it in file recovery mode. You can also try to copy these .tib files from external disk to internal one and try again - sometimes reading from external drives may return inconsistent data for whatever reason (wobbly wiring, EMI, etc)
