HP DL380e Gen8 B320I controller no disks

Thread needs solution

Booting stand alone 11.5 lastest.
On boot no array disks shows briefly durning the text based part of boot.
When acronis is running it shows NO disks at all on the B320I controller.
Can select the image from USB drive but no where to put it.

I have tried to connect to chat help but it times out connecting to rep.

IS this controller supported ?

Hello ed leibrick,

thank you for posting this issue in our forum. I am happy to assist you.

When you cannot choose the build in drives, that does mean that the Linux based bootable media does not have the necessary drivers for the used controller.

As a workaround you can create a WinPE bootable media and add the Windows 32-bit drivers for your mass storage device to this boot environment. You will find more detailed information in this article from our knowledge base.

If you need additional assistance, please contact support. You will find all available support options in our Customer handbook.

If there is anything else we can do for you, please let me know.

Thank you.

Any luck getting the HP b320i Array controller to work with ver. 11.5?

Linux version comes up but NO SAS drives are detected. I tried loading the HP drivers hpsa2.inf (cp017374) and hpsa2.inf (cp019586) manually but still no go.

WinPE with Acronis plugin doesn't even come up. Screen goes blank (no video signal) right after the dos prompt.

Let us know.

Linux-based media uses Windows drivers only to apply them to a Windows OS installation in Universal Restore process. It can't use this drivers to access the hardware ( It's quite natural that windows drivers don't work in Linux system).

WinPE-based media can use them if you specify these drivers during creation of the media.

I was referring to the Bootabale media type Default (Linux-based media) not the Linux Acronis version.

Btw. I was able to restore win2k8 image using the Linux-based media to any pre Gen 8 DL servers (HP DL360 g6, g5).

Quick update,

I got it to work on Backup Recovery Advanced 10 (Rev. 13762) & Backup Recovery Advanced 11 (Rev. 17217), using the 32bit HP drivers (cp019586).

a) Create WinPE image with Acronis Plugin. Do not add any drivers at this point.
b) Copy the below listed cp019586 files to USB key:

cp019586.xml
cpqsetup.exe
generic.dll
hpsa2.cat
hpsa2.inf
hpsa2.sys
install.xml
libsa.sys

c) Start WinPE with Acronis Plugin
d) Add drivers manually (Tools > Add Driver) by pointing to the USB key with HP drivers

At this point SAS drives should be detected, you can check in the disk management.

Hope this helps.

Good job. I've the same problem with my HP DL380e Gen8. Your solution resolved it. Thanks for your help.
