Acrons Backup Managed Machine Service interferes with USB device detection

Thread needs solution

Hello,

since some time I have troube detecting some USB Sticks. They will be recognized but no drive will be created at all or it takes minutes until the drive is mounted.

After some debuging I found out the problem is the "AcronisManaged Machine Service" which causes this trouble. Stopping the service then evryhing is fine and the USB devices wll be detected immidiately. Starting the service again then the trouble is back....

I have proofed this on two different machies with different HW (Win7 64bit, Acronis Backup Workstation Advanced 11.7, 50064 ).

A clean reinstallation using the cleanup tool  abr_cleanup_h.exe does not solve this isssue.

This is really a bug!

Can someone confirm?

Hello Jacky2,

Thank you for your posting! I've found similar issues documented in our internal system for particular USB 3.0 drives. What is the size of your drive? Is it larger than 32GB? Have you tried using a different port\different drive e.g. of a smaller capacity?

Hello Ekaterina

thanks fo your reply. Yes one is a USB3 Stick 128GB. The second one is not a USB stick it is the Tiptoi play tool it is also mounted as drive but this is for sure a USB2 tool. But the ports are only USB3 ports. On my Notebook I have only USB3 ports. I have checked that I have the latest USB3 drivers.

Of course I have a couple of USB2 Sticks <= 32GB  they are working well. Only on some of the devices I have trouble which is gone when I stop the "Acronis Managed Machine" service.

Thank you for your reply! I haven't found any known solutions for the issue in our internal sources (it didn't reproduce in our lab). I'd recommend raising a ticket with Acronis support team, so that we can collect diagnostic information from your environment, where the issue reproduces.

Alternatively, you may want testing Acronis Backup 12.5

Thanks for the info.

Interesting, what does it mean when you say you have an issue in the internal database but you cannot reproduce it?

Will this issue then be fixed in later 11.7 versions? Then it is not a big problem for me because I know how to temporary can fix it (disable the service when I plugin such a USB stick). Can I raise a ticket because my support time already has ended?

I have a 12.5 license but it is not (yet) usable for me since I'm still missing some functionality as in 11.7.

Hi

I just installed the Build-Nr. 50073 but the issue still exists!

When will it be fixed?

Hello Jacky2,

The original reporter of the issue refused to continue investigation, the status of the related ticket is still unresolved. Unfortunately, we don't have any ETA given the specific nature of the issue. If the issue reproduces on the latest build of Acronis Backup 12.5, I'd raise a support ticket at https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/contact-us/ and let the support engineers take a look at the logfiles collected from the system where the issue reproduces.

Hello Ekaterina,

you can easily reproduce this issue by buying a couple of USB3 USB memory sticks and test if the will be recognized and accessible. I have this issue on PCs with different HW. As I said if I disable the "Acronis Managed Machine Service" the USB stick is working well.

My stick is a Samsung USB 3.0 Flash Drive 128GB.
