Best practices for backing up Exchange 2013

Thread needs solution

I have been backing my Exchange 2013 server up for some time now without the Agent.

The backup job runs once per night and backs up the C drive (where the operating system is loaded) and the G drive (where Exchange is loaded).

I've loaded the Exchange Recovery Agent but I am not sure what to do next.

The documentation suggests that I create a backup job for the "Microsoft Exchange Information Store". When I look at that I can see my 8 databases and I can select them for backup. This appears to be in addition to my file system backup.

With this option checked should I then exclude the Mailbox folder within my Exchange installation on the file system backup? It seems that if I back up the Exchange Mailbox folders with the file system and the agent I'm backing it up twice.

I'm just not sure what to do.

Hello Dave,

thank you for your posting!

Yes, creating a full backup of the partition/disk where your Exchange database is located and then creating a separate backup plan for "Microsoft Exchange Information Store" with help of Acronis Backup Agent for Exchange you back up the same data twice.

To decrease required storage and improve disk backup speed you may want to exclude Exchange folders from Disk-level backup.

Thank you.
