LSI MegaSR RAID5 - Hard drives not visible using bootable media

Thread needs solution

Hello,

We have installed Acronis Backup for servers on a PC with LSI MegaSR RAID5. We have three hard drives installed, where two of them are RAID1. The hard drives are recognized in Windows, but when we try to test our disaster recovery procedure using bootable media, we are not able to see any hard drives.

Here is a snippet from dmesg.txt. Seems to me that the hard drives are recognized, but they don't show up as a source or destination for recovery or backup on the bootable media.

I have also included the whole file.

Bonus question: We have seen in the past that bootable media created on a different PC might not work, and that bootable media should always be created on the target PC. Is there logic in Acronis to include additional drivers from the PC where it is created? In this case, we did create it on the target PC, but it still doesn't work...

Appreciate any answers that can guide me in the right direction!

Hello Trond,

Linux-based Acronis media is always the same for each program version regardless of where and how it was created. Please refer to this article for more information.

And in your case WinPE-based media can help. Please create it on machine in question and check if it works properly.

If you necessarily need Linux-based media, please register your license under your account and contact our support with system reports from media and in Windows.

Thank you.

Hello Anna,

Thank you for the follow-up.

Does this mean that WinPE-based media will differ, based on which machine it is created on? So we should always create WinPE-media on the machine in question?

Hello Trond,

yes, WinPE media will differ depending on which drivers you add to it.

However, for the majority of cases Linux-based media will work just fine. You will need WinPE with custom drivers only in cases when something is not recognized by standard Linux-based media.

Thank you.
