Restoring smaller to larger partitions using the Acronis Backup bootable media

Thread needs solution

Hello,

When I m trying to restore a small partition (let's assume 25GB) from a backup to a larger partition (say 50GB), shouldn't the default behaviour be that all the bigger partition space is taken up?

I keep seeing unallocated space between partitions. Each partition on the backup is restored to its original size, leaving unallocated space instead of using all the space of the pre-existing partitions on the disk (which are also created from disk management of acronis bootable DVD.)

Is there any option I m missing?

Hi Mark,

When you perform recovery from an image backup you can select whether to restore volumes or disks from the image. This selection is done on "What to recover" step, when you browse the archive and select what to be restored from there. Next there is an option to map the selected volumes or disks onto the existing volumes or onto new ones. In your case you should select volumes to be restored and map them to existing larget volumes - in this case the target volume will keep its size and the data will be restored onto it.

If this doesn't help please attach some screen shots showing how exactly you configure the recovery, so that I can advise further.

Thank you.
