vCenter Server and Acronis Agent removed

Thread needs solution

Hi,

have discovered some strange behavior, not verified yet.

Following I have done in order:

1) Started "Run as VM from Backup" to a machine, lets name it "VM1". VM1_temp is present in vCenter and in powered off state. Reconfigured the Network in vCenter (issue with dvSwitch on restore/Run as VM) and video memory. Powered on machine.

2) Shut down VM1 from guest OS. Power state is now powered off.

3) Started a second "Run as VM from Backup" to the same machine, is shown as "VM1_temp (1)" in vCenter, machine is powered on, Run VM from backup was started with Power State = Off.

4) Deleted the first machine VM1_temp from AB12 in Devices.

5) Recognized one machine after another is beeing removed from AB12 UI (filter was set so clearly visible). Then the vCenter itself was removed and the Agent for Windows/VMware also vanished. vCenter WebUI is still working, just removed from AB12.

"VM1_temp" and "VM1_temp (1)" still in vCenter, same as temporary datastore.

Can Acronis try to reconstruct this bahavior?

Have collected logs from Management Server, probably you will need it.

Thanks!

Edit:

A reboot of AB12 doesn't bring the connection to vCenter and the Agent back but VM1_temp and VM1_temp (1) are removed from vCenter, same is the temporary datastore.

Re-registering the vCenter and Agent work, brings back everything.

I am not able to reproduce this behavior.

Lots of following in AMS/engine_protection.log.

And also in AMS/ManagementServer.log something matching to removed vCenter.

Raphael,

After the machine where Acronis Backup 12 Agent for VMware is installed is rebooted - the agent upon startup automatically cleans up the traces of the mounted VMs (run from backup) which were present before the reboot, so this is a normal behavior. What concerns the original sequence - I'm not sure how to comment here since the problem is not reproduced neither in yours nor in ours environment (we've also tried it locally). I'd guessed that this is a some kind of Agent<->vCenter communication issue, but it's only a guess.

Thank you.

I have tried several times to reproduce, but didn't happen again. Also nothing related in vCenter's vpxd.log/vapi.log, unfortunately the Inventory Service log (inv-svc.log) is not available any more as it is rotated out.

So let's close this, I will report back if it happens again.

Thanks for help!
