Configure to use specific IP-address for connection to Acronis Backup Server

Thread needs solution

Dear Sir or Madam,

my client/server networks are separated and routed. The Acronis Backup machine is multihomed, one NIC in server network, one NIC in client network. I want the clients to use the IP of the backup server in the client network to avoid routing the whole backup traffic through the firewall/router. How can I achieve this, is there a registry key I can deploy by GPO to the clients?

Best regards,

Thorsten

Hi Thorsten,

When you create a backup plan and define the destination for the backup you can specify it using IP address from required network (e.g. \\IP_of_backup_server\share\ ). The destination IP/hostname resolution is performed on the agent side, so each agent which is included into this backup plan will try to resolve the destination using the address provided in the backup plan.

Thank you.

Thank you for your reply, but that's what I did. The Task for the machines is configured to use the ip of the management server in the client network. It still utilizies the server NIC and routes over the firewall.

Is it possible because I also run a storagenode on the management server? In details of the storagenode are both IPs of the management server listed (client network and server network). Does the agent on the client machines communicates with the management server ov ther client network but the backup tasks sends its backup data to the storagenode ip in the server network?

Hi Thorsten,

When you're backing up to location managed by Acronis Storage Node (ASN), then the behavior is different than with regular shares. There is ASN hostname used for accessing the location (the location path format used by agent is bsp://ASN_hostname/location_name), which currently cannot be changed, but we're adding an option to allow chosing the IP address of the ASN in the location properties in the next update (Acronis Backup 12.5 Update 2) which comes later this year. Here's a screen shot of how it would look like: Backups->Locations->edit some location managed by ASN:

LocationSettings.PNG

Until this update is released the only variant is to add the record for ASN hostname into \windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file with IP from required network on the agent machines.

Thank you.

Hi Vasily,

thanks again for your quick response. The hosts file is currently not an option but now I know the "problem" is addressed with the next update I will accept this and wait eagerly for it :)
