how people feel about v12.5
Hi,
v12.5 has been released for some time. I'm just wondering how people like this product before I upgrade, please.
thanks very much,
Aldous

I'm using Acronis Backup for the first time, was using a different software before...
I was shocked to see a web interface instead of a console and I have hated this web interface ever since... i mean it's a good application but it's still a web application and seems very fragile... i'm not even going to say anything about the elasticsearch Java webapp thingy that's running as a service in the background...that might have been there with previous versions already anyway.
With this interface i'm constantly getting CSS glitches that force me to reload the page and lose all settings i made and as it is a webapplication i'm never sure what screens i'm allowed to close and where i have to wait for something to finish loading...
Apart from this i'm still trying to get core functionalities to work but i might still be doing something wrong so i'm not about to condemn the software for that. It is however very clear that there's still a lot of documentation missing and the new interface needs to be more of a professional tool and less of a "Windows 8.1 style" dumbed down software that hides 99% of what it actually does in the background.
I might not sound like it, but i still think there might be a great backup software hidden somewhere underneath that new interface.

When you export a job - it's saved as .json file to Downloads folder, which is defined in your Internet browser settings, just like you download any other file from Internet.

Agreed 100%. Yes user have to give the new approach a chance, but basic functionality is still missing, like here:
https://forum.acronis.com/forum/acronis-backup-125/backup-125-settings-…
i believe acronis managers pushed v12 even 12.5 six months too early what now is causing problems big time.
thanks to guys like Vasily there is hope, but this is way not acceptable for business environments.
@ Vasily I will try that out, thanks. (as soon as i figure out where to find that button :-) )

Hi, thanks everyone's input. I haven't upgrade to v. 12.0 because of the comments from others. I was hoping to hear something different with v12.5. Unfortunately, Acronis seems to be too focus on new features to attract new customers instead of better user interface and stability to keep the existing.

I using it for two weeks. I don't know if I should cry or get drunk. Or both things together. Web interface, changed environment....WHY??!!!!
Window with alerts? Yes, i have one. But I can't click on them. When I choose Show all, i see only older posts.
PLEASE, add there posibility to use old desktop.........
I know i cried on bad doors :)))))) BUT........

12.5 is so much better that 12, I still hate the web based interface. My Subscription SYNC problem has got me very frustrated, I cannot get any satisfying support on this problem, I have asked for a refund due to the fact this Subscription SYNC problem lack of a fix is a deal breaker for me.

You should stay away from AB 12.5 .... and better from Acronis at all. Just go through this forum and you will see that the product is full of bugs and support is not able to anything apart create a new plan or send us the logs.

In my opinion if you are not obliged to upgrade then do not. Wait for the first service pack that all of us looking forward. I obliged to upgrade because 11.7 does not support VMWare 6.5 and I had to upgrade VMWare too. There are many bugs and I believe that the product will be satisfactory after the next update.

Hi everyone,
My impression : why did I upgrade my working 11.5 to 12.5 before reading this thread ? why ?
My experience : 3,5 weeks without any backup followed by 1,5 week having a backup plan for each of my 7 servers (so 7 plans), manually scheduled in order for the next plan to be sure not to start before the end of the previous so using a google sheet to manage the start times and backup durations.
5 weeks calling and writing to a "non existing" support, answering to my request when "they lost an eye" as we say in french;
To much work and not enough people to do the work they told me many times. What about reducing our support bill ?
Endlessly, after 5 weeks, complete de installation and re installation, one timer parameter changed in the registry of the management server, it seems to work, I'll know if it really does this week-end when the full backup of the 7 server in only on plan will run and I hope with success.
The web interface is a mess, this upgrade a total disaster and ejecting a tape from the interface does not work.
And what about displaying the schedule time of a plan in a popup by flying over the planification label instead of going to edit the plan then edit the planification parameter ?
So you understand how thrilled I am about this software upgrade !
As already said before me, you should stay away of this upgrade.
of Acronis ?

I began a trial of 12.5 and quickly came to the conclusion that its design and function was not good enough - we currently use VMware Backup for VMware ver 9 which has been excellent but I cannot see that we will upgrade to 12.5.

disaster for me as well!
"in place" upgrade is a trap
nothing works right after it's done
and when i try to re-write my plans, some basic things are missing and the UI is glitchy
i'd say stay away, if it's not too late

The backups for vmware are working well, are faster than previous versions, and seem to be stable. The agent backups on older Windows standalone servers, however, are a disaster. Having all kinds of problems with the agent not retaining the share credentials correctly. Anyone else having problems with credential management? Also, why aren't they supporting SSL out of the gate for the management console?

I have been running Acronis for a number of years without issue. I generally waited to upgrade until the newest version has had at least one update. When I saw that 12.5 was released along with an update, I figured it was time to make the jump from 11.7. What a mistake that was. I have nothing but issues with the newest version, along with a number of support tickets going on for months now.
Some thoughts:
- I am not a fan of the web interface versus the traditional console.
- The interface is overly simplified and therefore not informative enough
- The interface is also slow and buggy. The dashboard widgets are nice, but they are rarely accurate.
- The new tibx file format doesn't work, at least for me. Open trouble ticket on this.
- Cannot access older 11.7 backup files--might be a glitch, need to look further into this.
- It does seem to work faster than 11.7
- Don't like that you have to create separate cleanup tasks.
I hope that someone at Acronis reads this, along with the previous posts in this thread and addresses their issues quickly--before they lose some customers.

Lucky for me, i was able to simply abandon 11.7 archives and start over after i realized that's the only way to move on.
Once you get over the fact that in-place upgrade is not designed to work, 12.5 starts to show it's bright side.
Agree on the web UI - not informative enough and still buggy.
One file incremental is nice, but it it should still show the size of new data in each backup IMO.

So no tape support in 12.5 Server? I would have thought that server-grade backup software would support tape backup out of the box, especially if it can back up SQL, Exchange, etc. Even Advanced Workstation supports tape backup, but not Server? Am I just not understanding why they have their packages set up and priced like they are?

Hello Christopher,
Backup to tape is available in Acronis Backup 12.5 Advanced only, independent of the supported operating systems and applications. Here you can find the whole list of Differences between Acronis Backup 12.5 Standard and Acronis Backup 12.5 Advanced. If you are interested in moving from Acronis Backup 12.5 Standard to Acronis Backup 12.5 Advanced, we can provide a special feature upgrade link with discount.

Peter, Chris, please check your private messages. Thank you!

I upgraded from 11.7 to 12.5. For a single server. It was 1.5 weeks before I got 2 backups in a row to work.
In place upgrade, didn't ask for product key during install. Was first failure.
Existing backup jobs showed, but didn't work.
Existing backup destinations showed, didn't work.
Ended up deleting all and starting over. Credentials seem to get forgotten like software had Alzheimers.
Web interface is a mess. Large amounts of wasted space, not showing needed details without clicking around.

Hello Everyone,
