is it possible backup data from windows server that doesnt share any folders using Acronis Backup agent or other options?
So here is the problem:
Windows Server 2008 with Acronis Backup installed, makes copy to external NAS, the server doesnt share any folder.
Windows 7 client with Acronis Backup installed, with tape device installed.
What i want is to do perform backup of the Windows Server data to the tape device (LTO) on the windows client, but i dont want to share any folder on the server for security reasons (the data is accessed in other ways directly by some accounting application and it's not shared through smb or other protocols).
I cant install the tape device on the server.
I thought i could connect from Windows 7 pc to the Server using Acronis agent, but from there i cant see the tape on the client, it's like im operating straight on the server machine.
Differently, in another installation in another office we use Backup Exec and with that, in a similar server configuration, it's possible to install an agent on the Windows Server and on the Windows Client computer backup the data from the server to the tape installed on the Windows 7 computer.
So the question is: is it possible to use Acronis Backup to do something similar?
Backing up software on a server that doesnt share the folders but accessing it using some kind of agent, similarly to Backup Exec?

Ok great, thanks a lot. I manage few very small offices but they need some good level of security/backups nonetheless.
So i guess i also need to install Acronis Management Server, right? To add the Storage Node. And that's only in the Advanced version of the software if i remember correctly.

Hi Paul,
Yes, this is correct - to get backups saved to some central location based on tapes you'll need an Advanced license in order to use Acronis Storage Node component. Note that actually for any tapes-related functionality you'd need an Advanced license.
Thank you.
