Migrate 12.5 advanced with dedup vaults to new servers

Thread needs solution

Hi,

Our installation consists of 6 ESXi hosts. We have 2 VMs dedicated to acronis backup advanced 12.5.  The first vm is a deduplication vault and management server. The second is only deduplication vault. The operating system on both VMs is Windows 7 pro.

What we want to do is to migrate acronis services from these two windows 7 VMs to new windows 2016 or 2012 datacenter edition VMs.

I would like to know if Acronis is compatible with windows server 2016 or 2012 and what is the recommended method for migration. If I had no deduplication enabled everything would be easy. But now I worry about the dedup database because if is is not accessible from the new acronis VMs we will lose the backups.

Thank you.

Hello Athanasios,

To accomplish your task you'll need moving the Acronis Management Server first, Please follow instructions from https://kb.acronis.com/content/61354 that explains how to install a new AMS and import back old plans and Agents.

Once AMS is up and running, you'll need to add old locations.Since you're also moving your vaults to the new servers, do the following:

1. Delete the location from the list

2. In Windows Explorer, open the folder that contains the dedup vault. Copy all Meta files and Computer folders under Windows Explorer from the old location to a new one. Move the deduplication database to the new location.

3. In Acronis Management Server, navigate to Add Location, select the new storage node, and specify the path to the new folder with the vault data and to the deduplication db.

If possible, I'd also recommend doing this first with a test dedup vault to be on the safe side.
