Problem with Win10 backup recovery

Thread needs solution

Hello,

we have a problem with recovery of Win10 image(s) to externally (USB/SATA docking station, for example) connected HDD via Acronis console.

When we map partitions (volume mapping) from backup to a second HDD, so it looks like this:

and start the Recovery, it will fail after a while (15% progress) with error message

Failed to write the snapshot manager drive.
Windows error: (0x80070005) Access is denied

In cases where we have full Disk backup (and not just a selection of partitions - we usually exclude data partition D:\ ) and thus can use disk mapping instead of volume one, then it runs much longer and at first looks like it's working, but eventually (around 80-90% of progress) fails with similar error:

Command has failed. Command=Recovering volumes; tenantID=9dc5fc66-acff-11e8-8889-00505685c9cb
Windows error: (0x80070005) Access is denied

Do you have an idea, what might be the problem here?
With version 11.5 we were doing recoveries like these (both Win7 and Win10) all the time without any issues.
But with version 12.5 we are now only able to recover Win 7 backups to external HDD (with USB stick also Win10 recovery works, but for some of our IT teams this is the preferred way of recovery).

Weird thing is that we tested this a few months ago and it was working and I think it was before we started using Acronis v12.5 Update 3, so maybe it's a bug that is now fixed with recently released Update 4. What do you think? (testing will take a while, we can't simply update our production system)

Thank you

Lukas

Also maybe this activity log will help

And another update: recovery of Win10 backup to external HDD works, but only if we use Win7 client for this process

Hello Brose.

I suggest that you collect Acronis System Report and share it with Acronis Support Team for this recovery issue investigation.

As a workaround, please use Acronis Bootable Media for recovery because the target machine reboot is required there which would help to avoid such issues.
