Restore on vmware- how to?

Thread needs solution

I have tried to perform test restore on acronis backup 12.5

I have choose backups->vault->machine->show backups-> choose newest  and click restore (files/ folders) -> choose some files and click  "Restore"

And here I have a problem.

In position "restore to" I see server where I have Acronis backup server installed. When I click on it to change, I see only this server and acronis appliances. I don't see machine where I wont to restore files.  the same with databases etc.

How to choose machine from backup was made?

Hi,

The available recovery options depend on the agent which performs the browsing - you need to check the "Machine to browse from" field when browsing the "Backups" tab and select corresponding Agent for VMware there:

Thank you.

I have the backup server in this place (the server where the managed vault is instaled).  When I change it, i Could only choose from appliance agents.

And when I choose any of it I can see backups but  when i coose one and try to restor files i cant see file  in my backup. It is error "network disconnected"

After I changed Machine to browse for Acronis Appliance, and now I go back to choose Acronis server as a machine  to browse is even worse.
Because now I can't see files in my backup.  Before it was possible. Now only grin circle is twisted and "loading"  when i want to choose files to restore.

Hi Marek,

If you added the backup location by it's hostname, e.g. \\hostname\share then you need to ensure that this hostname is resolved to IP address from the backup agent which you use for browsing - likely that's the reason for why you can't browse the backup properly. Make sure that DNS server settings are correct on the appliance (open it's console from vSphere client to configure this seting).

The easier way to perform recovery into VM is from Devices list - select the VM which was backed up into your backup location and go to Recovery tab in this view - it will be browsing the location using the agent used to backup this VM. Browsing from "Backups"  tab should be used if you perform cross-platform recovery, e.g. from physical to virtual or vice versa. If there are problems with this process and my above suggestion to check DNS server settings doesn't help, please contact our support team for further assistance.

Thank you.

But i have created location not by hostname  but by local folder.

After click add location - there is possible to choose local or network folder.  I have choosen local.

and When i was tried to restore from device list it was not working also.  So local folders are not supported to restore remote vm?   So why backups are successful? but only problem to restore

Hi Marek,

It's not clear unfortunately how exactly the backup is set up in your particular environment, so I can only guess:

You seem to have backed up some machine via Agent for Windows installed inside it to local folder on that same machine. It won't be possible to perform recovery from this local backup into a VM unless you install Agent for VMware (Windows) onto the same machine and configure it for connection to vSphere.

For better flexibility you should set up the backup locations on a shared storage, e.g. SMB network share or Acronis Cloud, which can be accessed by the agents regardless of where they are installed.

Assuming that you have difficulties with the initial setup I'd recommended to contact our support team (LiveChat service) who can guide you through the process and give proper recommendations for the setup.

Thank you.

It showed out that I have no agent installed on internal  virtual server. I have only installed vmagents.  So to restore just some files or sql directly to target server it need also internal agent installed.
