What is different when restoring a Hyper-V VM as a new VM through the web interface vs. command line?

Thread needs solution

Hi, I have several VMs, most of them Ubuntu 16.04, that recover fine when doing so through the Acronis 12.5 web interface. However, when I recover the same backup through acrocmd the command completes fine, VM is created, but upon startup all I get is a black screen with a blinking cursor near the upper left of the screen.

Example command I am using:

acrocmd recover vm --vmname="vmName" --vmserver_name=recoveryserver.local --vmstorage="C:\vm" --loc="D:\backups" --arc="backup.tibx" --password="secretArchivePassword" --backup="4CAED234-9415-4373-B435-20F39C457868" --host=recoveryserver.local --credentials="username","secretLoginPassword" --service=mms --log="C:\Users\username\Desktop\recovery.log"

Any idea why there is this discrepancy?

Thanks,

Jeremy

So, I have a partial answer - with an additional new question.

The machines which fail to recover to a new VM via command line are Hyper-V Gen 2. It seems when a recovery is performed via command line only Gen 1 VMs are created.

So, is there a way to recover to a new Gen 2 Hyper-V VM via the command line tool acrocmd?

Thanks,

Jeremy

Jeremy, it is a known issue that acrocmd recovers Gen1 virtual machines. The reference code is ABR-90429.

We've added +1 already, but the ETA for fixing is still not the nearest update. It will be fixed in one of the future updates.

Thank you for your input.
