ABR 10: Archives can not be opened - wrong password

Thread needs solution

Dear all,

ABR 10 shows the following behavior:

An archive is created with or without password.

An attempt to open it brings up the password prompt on either archive.

The password in use is not recognized.

No archive can be opened, no matter if created with or without password.

This happens in Windows and with the Bootable Media, so probably has its reason in the creation process.

Two different systems, Windows 2008 and Windows 2003 - same.

Any hints on this?

Hi Andreas,

> No archive can be opened, no matter if created with or without password.
Do you get an error message?

> [...] so probably has its reason in the creation process.
Could be. Can you perform a validation on the archives? What is the result?

Gerald

Hi Andreas

This is not something I have seen before but would suggest checking the following details:
ABR Management console --> Options --> Default backup and recovery options --> Default Backup Options --> Archive protection
Ensure there is no default policy setup for all backups in this section perhaps?

Also please ensure you are running the latest build of ABR10, again I have not seen this issue before but having the latest build of ABR10 will ensure we can troubleshoot on the same levels.

ABR Management console --> Help --> About
The screen should report at least ABR10 Update 4 (Build 10.0.13545)

Please also try creating a new back plan all together and seeing if this new plan also has the same issue or not.

If you could also provide a screenshot of when opening the archive what window is poping up asking for a password and how are you ‘loading/accessing’ the backup file? (eg, through ABR10 or through Windows explorer..etc..etc)

The cause of this behaviour were existing tasks while updates of ABR were installed as they became available.

New tasks do work again.
