ABR 10 Email Notification Logs: Poor Implementation, Inadequate Information--Soultions?
The "log" that is generated by an ABR 10 email notification is little more than a confirmation that the backup operation completed successfully (or not):
1. No start or end times
2. "From:" data, the "backup what", is truncated at 12 characters for file backup, and shows generic information like "disk 1" for images
3. The compression setting is reported; what's the use of this in an email notification?
4. Exclude match criterion is uniformly shown as "*\System Volume Information\* followed by a GUID; totally useless
5. Backup size is not reported
6. If the job includes verification, the log is sent upon completion of backup and you're left to wonder if the verify job completed.
Is there anything that can be done about this? Is the content of the email log perhaps controlled by an XML template that could be edited, or is is all hard wired?
Checking "Add full log to the notification" only adds more generally useless information, and what is sent is by no means the "full log".
For a backup program being marketed to business, this is a poor showing. Have any of these things been addressed in ABR 11?
