ABR 11 advanced workstation upgraded from ABR 10 - Vault / Catalogue very slow
I've upgraded to ABR 11 on local machine running Win XP Pro. i.e. installed over ABR 10.13545 to ABR 11.17217.
1. Slow vault loading:-
I've got 4+ (TB) archives created in ABR 10. Now ABR 11 is installed, every time I load up the console the personal archives spend ages (hours) loading before displaying. Also the backup plans cannot be properly viewed or edited as the loading indicator shows up again. I started to catalogue the archives yesterday and it completed after 10 hours. When I refreshed it seems to be on an endless 'loading' loop again as before. It is not obvious as to what is going on and whether it's a bug or normal behaviour? The manual doesn't say much about this.
I'm not sure whether my old archives are causing problems or whether creating new ones would help. At present the software is unusable compared with ABR 10.
Do I just need to let it run for several days cataloging by pressing the 'start' link before being able to use it?
2. Large files eating up C-drive hard disk space:-
In addition the folder "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\Temp\Itzam" is filling up my HDD with files such as <0H3RBVF8~DemonData.swapFile.dat~>. 30GB so far. Why are these being created and placing demands on my system outside the designated archive location? There must be a proper fix for this other than telling me to make smaller backup files as stated in KB "12062: Acronis Backup & Recovery 10:"Itzam" Folder."
My C-drive has a little over 1GB free and this gets consumed trying to catalog the vault drive. If it keeps on filling how can I ever get to the stage of having a working cataloged vault?

I have decided to just create new archives and delete the old ones so Acronis can create the catalog as it builds the new backup. This seems to work okay without creating the large files as was required when creating a new catalog in ABR11 from a pre-existing ABR10 archive.
I also expect that the slow loading of the vaults was related to the fact that the catalog indexing was not completing due to space constraints. This was not immediately obvious, but now I've created new vaults and data, the operation seems to be much more straight forward.
ABR11 seems to have a nice set of features and presentation to make the change over pain worth while.

We have exactly the same issue on a couple of customer installs, is there a fix for this, the catalogue is eating space on the C drive under the users Docs/Settings folder. How can I change where the catalogue is stored?

As far as I have read, there is no fix for this issue, apart from starting a brand new archive as mentioned above. This will obviously be unacceptable to some for obvious reasons and Acronis have provided no fix that I am aware.

I upgraded from Backup and Recovery Advanced Workstation v10 to v11 and am having the same issues with extremely slow vault loading. v10 worked ok, but at least it worked. In v11 I have tried creating new vaults and even that takes forever (I have waited hours and still not done.). I am working in a fresh install of Windows 7 and have no other speed issues or slow downs with other programs. This is very frustrating and a waste of time!

"J Doe", the only thing I can suggest that might help:
1. Create new archive or at least delete the old archive contents;
2. Make sure the archive size is not set to "auto" (single large archive), but rather set to 4.7GB size.

Hi Sammy did you get a solution for this? I have the same problem and getting help from Acronis is like getting blood from a stone...

Re my last post, I was referring to DemonData.swapfile, data~ files which wipe out the hard drive capacity. I am getting one every 2 minutes (250MB each!).

If you have just updated to ABR 11 then you will need to recreate the archives as mentioned in my previous post. i.e. delete the old and recreate new archives. Not ideal but a solution at least.
I have since stopped using Acronis because of its unreliability such as above. For my data backup I now use "freefilesync" with versioning. It's a better solution I've found and doesn't require recreating the full backup once my disk is full. Acronis is too unreliable for reasons like you have discovered and this is a risk when trying to ensure backup are done reliably. Paying for something that doesn't work is not my idea of fun.
For emergency restore of OS images I found a free versions called "Easeus todo" backup, or "paragon" backup or "redo" or "clonzilla". However, the last two can't be scheduled.
