ABR10AW build 13544 unattended install

Thread needs solution

I created an unattended install script with a transform file for the agent build 12708 as outlined in the install guide documentation update 3 (below) and this has worked fine (for the most part).

However, when I install the agent build 13544 and run the backup (policy) afterwards, the backup fails with an error stating "Cannot access VSS, user Acronis Agent User is not in the Administrator group. Add user Acronis Agent User to the Administrators group or disable VSS." The Acronis agent user is part of the backup operators group and even when added to the local admin group, the backup continues to fail with the same error message.

hi
we have the same issue with build 13455. we installed/updated our acronis agents with the build-in tool (acronis console - tools - install acronis components). And we geht the same error when we install the agent manualy on a new windows 2008 R2 x64 server.
no solutions found (adding the acronis-user to the admin-group has no effect).
our server (acronis management and storage-node) runs on build 13455, our agent-machines runs all with the agent version 12708.
The acronis management-server and storage-node runs better/stabler with build 13455, but the agent-installations and especially the update-procedure is poor. On many of our servers the update starts, but don't shows any progress or fails (without any informative error message).

Hi Manuel and Sascha,

Thank you for your comments, I'll do my best to assist you with the issue.

It's hard to identify the issue without the additional diagnostic information as the error appears to be quite common, and may eliminate several causes. We would appreciate if you could Acronis Info and MSI log, submit a case with the information attached, and let us know it's number.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Also same issue here , with build 13545. After succesfull remote upgrade - i deployed new policy - and trying to manually run first daily task - i receive following error:

We are now on Build 13545 (Management Server, Storage Server) and on the way to update our Agents.
Some of our agents are now on Build 13454 and we realized no issues like "Cannot access VSS, user Acronis Agent User is not in the Administrator group". But we did the update of the agents manually - remote update don't realy works.

I made reinstall on that machine (repair of installation) - and it began work ...

So is it my understanding that a re-install fixes this issue? Can others in the thread confirm this? Thanks..

My information from the Acronis Support is, to start the server with a Windows Setup CD and start a repair of the system. As I understand, not with the recovery-console: http://decipherinfosys.wordpress.com/2007/02/16/effectively-repairing-w…
I don't have made a test with this sceanrio yet. We have 10 productive servers with this problem - so testing is not so easy.
Acronis Support has confirmed the problem and our case is now by the engineers.

Just to extend the series of cases, I tried to update from version 12705 to 13544: in Windows Server 2008 SP2 "update as failed" with error code 013795829 but it worked done on an old Windows server 2000. I hope the next update. Have a nice day.

Hello Pierluigi,

Thank you for your comment.

Have you tried to collect MSI log? It could be useful for us, as it point onto the errors during the installation process.

Thank you!

We have open a Acronis support call to solve the problem with the "Cannot access VSS" issue on May, 26 2011.
Still the problem is not solved. The last input from Acronis was to install B&R V11. We rejected this solution.

Hi all

I’m not sure if this will help but a new build of ABR10 (13762) has been released along with a list of fixes, it will be interesting to see if this fixes the issue some of you are facing. Unfortunately (or fortunately I should perhaps say) our internal system backups are running build 13544 and don’t have any of the reported issues so I’m not able to test this new version out ahead of time for you to see if it will fix this particular issue you are facing but it would appreciate if someone could download and try the latest build and report back on their findings.

The agent version 12705 or the setup for this agent version adds the agent-user (managed machine service user) to the following local policies privileges:
Log on as service
Adjust memory quotas for a process
Replace a process-level token
All versions after 12705 dont make entrys in this policies for the mms user. When we make the entrys manually, the backup jobs crashed with the VSS error.
When wie add the mms user (domain-user in our case) to the local administrator group on the agent-server, the backup jobs are successfull!
It don't work, when we add the mms user to a domain group, how is member in the local administrator group - we must add the mms user directly to the local admin group of the agent server.
The same behavior is also with the brandnew Build 13672 (we have successfull updated our management and storage server and also some agents (from 12705 and 13545) to the new version.
