ABR11 Adv "no volumes found" when trying to backup

Thread needs solution

I have ABR10 and just build a new server with ABR11 and I'm testing it out. So far two Win7 x64 test PCs have agents deployed (core/windows/and universal restore) and report properly.

I created two different backup plans so far, each targeting one of my test PCs.

The problem I seem to have is that I cannot see any of the volumes on either PC when I'm creating the plans and telling it what to back up. I know win7 needs both system and boot volumes backed up, but it literally cannot see either.

When I click on a PC with the "machines/disks/volumes" dropdown select in the Items to back up (ITBU) window of a backup plan, it shows a barely visible "loading" that immediately disappears and nothing is displayed. If I drill into the same PC in the righthand part of the same window under the "disk/type" columns it says "there are no items to show in this view". In other words, it cannot see the disks on that PC via the agent.

I'm guessing this must be a permissions problem. What level of permissions do I need on the acronis managed machine service and various services to be able to view the disks/volumes items when creating a backup plan?

My service account is called "acronis_svc" and it's a local admin on the AMS server but just a domain user. When I installed the agents on test PCs, I left the defaults and let it create its own accounts". I noticed that the Acronis managed machine service on both PCs is using "acronis_svc" and both it and the "acronis agent user" have the 3 user rights, log on as a service, adjust memory..., and modify firmware...". Help.

thanks

Peter

Hi Tech

It might be worth checking the PC you are having issues seeing the disk volumes on and ensure that the Acronis Agent Core and Windows Agent is installed and that all services are running correctly.

You might find one of the Agents might not be installed or a service is not currently running... If you run the install again you can perform a modify and also check this was what components are currently installed!

You might also like to look at the latest build of ABR11 that just got update today:

Hear is a copy of the release notes for the latest ABR11 build:
http://www.acronis.com.au/support/updates/changes.html?p=10387

Thanks for the heads up on the latest release. Since I just built the server and only have two test clients on it, now is certainly a good time to upgrade...

I didn't see anything obvious in the release notes that addresses my issue but I'll post back the results.

I'll try a manual install as well as I pushed both test PC's agents from the AMS.

thanks again!

I am having this problem also, on a new install of ABR11 Adv, b17318 on a Windows 2000 SP4 domain controller. Installation went well, once I navigated around the known installation error code 013795831, and created a user account manually. Note to support: Although I really appreciated the useful KB article link upon hitting this error, it would've been much more helpful if it had been included along with the downloaded binaries & guide docs.

As far as I can tell at this point, everything is working as it should, except when I select 'New - Backup Plan - Items to back up - Disks/Volumes', which then displays an empty right frame where my volume selections should appear. I can select Files and view all local drives (as noted in the preceding post) but this does not create a 'bare metal' recovery image, and is a more time consuming backup process, per the manual.

I've checked all services and everything appears as it should:
(4) Acronis services are started:
Managed Machine Svc
Remote Agent Svc
Removable Storage Management Svc
Scheduler2 Svc).

Related dependancy services also started are:
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Protected Storage
Windows Management Instrumentation

I'm probably going to open a case later today, but if anyone has suggestions I'd welcome any leads. Thanks in advance!

Windows 2000 requires a reboot after ABR11 installation to work properly, though installer doesn't prompt for reboot.

dev-anon: Your response was incredibly well timed, and even better ... absolutely spot on! 'Disk 1' now appears in the right-hand selection frame, so additional testing can now proceed. I usually reboot after software install/uninstall/config mods, but I obviously managed to overlook this simple step during the process. I thank you for your prompt and effective assistance - Happy New Year!
