ABR11 and Linux box

Thread needs solution

Hello.
I would like to post this question: is ABR11 suitable to backup a Linux based computer?
The situation is the following. We have a server running SuSE Linux Standard Server 8. We would like not to upgrade the operating sistem to a newer version because this box runs an old version of an accounting piece of software that we can't upgrade.
We would like to virtualize the the server because the hardware were it runs is quite old (an HP ML350 G3 machine). The virtualization software of our choice is VMWare Workstation 7.
Given this, we would like to know if I would be able to generate an hardware independent backup of the Linux machine booting the Linux machine from the Acronis bootable media with ABR11 plus Universal Restore.
Thank you for your advice and your time. Regards.

If SuSE 8 kernel is 2.4.*, then answer is No. http://kb.acronis.com/content/21157 - Acronis Universal Restore can be applied to Linux operating systems only with a kernel version of 2.6.15 or later. I.e. you can back it up using bootable CD, but restore with UR is not possible.
