ABR11 Email Notifications - test always fails

I'm trying to get email notifications to work - when I try to send a test emal message I always get an SMTP authentication has failed error.

The PC ABR11 is installed on is a Win7 Pro x64 box. I've removed my AV & turned off the firewall to ensure they're not causing this error. The email server is an internal SMTP server (RH Linux).
I connect to this server normally with Outlook (Office 10).
Steps taken:
Use the same account/server settings as I use in Outlook. Test Failed.
Change the server to the server's IP. Test Failed.
Triple check smtp authentication name/password. Test Failed.
Create new account on SMTP server. Add second email account to outlook using this account. Test in outlook and test by sending an email. Works. Change ABR11 to authenticate using this new account. Test Failed.
Any ideas?
