Access to the file is denied

Thread needs solution

Hello all.
I have been using ABR successfully for quite some time but all of a sudden it began to fail. The incremental backup gets to 12% complete then gives the error:

Interaction Required
One or more activities need your interaction
Number of activities that need interaction: 1
Backing up files (Machine 'TCS-6730B'; Task: 'Incremental backup')
x Access to the file is denied. Access is denied
Retry Cancel

- There is no mention of the "Access is denied" file name
- I am using a Samsung external USB hard drive
- I have run a Validate on the Vault twice and it was fine both times
- I have disabled Kaspersky but this did not help
- I have restarted the computer many times with no luck
- I have downloaded the latest build and run a repair.

Thanks
Trevor

 Hello Trevor,

Thank you for posting your question. I am happy to assist you with it.

You backup files and you constantly get the warning, that access to the file is denied. This interaction is needed, when the file specified for backup is locked by other application and the snapshot of it is not made. So Acronis Backup and Recovery does not have exclusive access to it and requires your action.

In order to make sure that the snapshot is always created and files are not locked, set the appropriate setting in file-level backup snapshot option to Always create a snapshot.

However, if you also backup files from network shares, Acronis Backup and Recovery cannot create snapshots of those and will never have exclusive access to the files. In this case you either have to make sure that files as not used by other applications, or ignore the warnings. In order to skip the warnings automatically, set the silent mode error handling option on.

I will be happy to answer additional questions, if you have any.

Thank you.
