Acronis PXE: No License Found. License deactivated.

Thread needs solution

Hi there,

We recently purchased B&R 10 Advanced Workstation (with Universal Restore and Deduplication in addition) and installed a License Sever in our Server VLAN on a Windows 7 machine with the PXE Option activated.

Before we bought Acronis, we already had a PXE-Image in our LAN. So I added a PXE bootmenu to our current PX Environment and copied the files "acronis_ramdisk.dat" and "kernel.dat" from an Acronis Boot CD into the tftp-root (I got that from a google-Search result). The bootmenu works fine and it boots into Acronis properly.

My Problem is: When I try to backup, the Assistant tells me: "No license found. License deactivated." (translated from german, I don't know if this wording also applies to the english version) and the "OK" butten to start the backup is greyed out, thus making it unusable.

How can i get the PXE Image to know that I HAVE a license for this product. The funny thing is, when I boot from a recovery CD, Acronis works just fine, no mentioning of a licensing issue. Also, when I boot directly from the Acronis PXE-Server (the Windows 7 machine), everything works. I guess, I lack the understanding of how Acronis searches for its licenses, but i haven't found anything in the manual regarding this issue.

Could anyone help me on this?

Thanks and best regards!

Daniel

Hello Daniel,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for your post. I will definitely assist you with this issue.

The reason for the no license found message is that our software accesses license information from the Acronis program bootable media builder. If you simply take the ramdisk.dat file and the kernel.dat file from either the boot CD or the Acronis media builder folder, it will not work.

In order to fix this issue, you will need to use Acronis based PXE server. However, I do understand that it can be an inconvenience since you have your own PXE server and I will create an appropriate enhancement request and forward it to our Development team so that in the future we can be more flexible with third party PXE servers. I am sorry for any inconvenience.

If you need additional assistance, please let me know.

Thank you.

Hi Anton,

thanks for your quick response and your feature-request-forward to the development team. Fortunately for our company, we are very flexible and can "fall back" to Rescue-CD based imaging, not as comfortable but still OK. It would be great to hear that this request were actually implemented in one of the next versions (proofs that user-feedback still has impact ;-) ).

Thanks for your effort and keep up the great work!

Best regards and pleasant holidays.

Daniel

Hi all, are there some news about the issue?
I use a licensed copy of acronis true image 2011 and I've added a PXE bootmenu to my PXE Environment and copied the files "ramdisk.dat" and "kernel.dat" from an Acronis Boot CD ( made using the media builder) into the tftp-root, but when I perform any action the program says that it is working on trial mode. How can I pass the license information ?

Thanks

Ferro

Hello Ferro,

Thank you for posting. Let me assist you with your question please.

Acronis True Image 2011 Home does not support operations with the PXE server. I would recommend using either Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 or Acronis Snap Deploy 3.

If you are interested you can check this KB article which shows how to create bootable media with a backup file.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

The program works, I've saved a system report on a network share . But when I try to perform any other action like a backup or a restore the program says that it is working in trial.
Anyway can I use Acronis Snap Deploy in a standalone mode?
In same cases I have to backup and restore old laptop or tablet with no cd\dvd and no usb boot option, so the only way is the PXE mode. It would be very usefull if I could use my acronis home in the pxe environment.

Hello Ferro,

Thank you for the follow-up.

I apologize for the inconvenience but unfortunately PXE functionality is not supported by Acronis True Image 2011 Home.

I will however forward your request to our Customer Listening System and you can always submit your feedback from this link.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
