Activate Startup Recovery Manager Without Installing B&R on Windows
Hi everyone,
I'm using Acronis Backup & Recovery Workstation.
I've made a boot CD, everything works nice, except one thing.
I cannot activate Startup Recovery Manager from the boot disk, it says that I have
to install Acronis Backup & Recovery on Windows and activate this option through Windows OS, because some windows files were needed for this process.
So, since the boot CD creation process has the option for importing files, drivers etc. I was wondering if someone knows which are those windows files needed for activating Startup Recovery manager without the need for installing Backup & Recovery on Windows.
My idea is to import these files in the boot CD, so I don't have the need to install Acronis B&R for activating the F11 option everytime I completely format my hdd. This is also for load purposes of the windows machine (less software, better OS performance).
Greetings

Hello apollo,
Thank you for specifying the detailed scenario and please accept our apologies for the delay with the response. We had some issues with handling the forum, but at the moment we fixed it and working hard to improve the situation.
Back to the case itself:
you can surely have the Acronis Start-Up Recovery manager activated without the installation of the product onto Windows, but it is closely tied to the Acronis Secure Zone (hidden partition on the drive for storing the backups) and cannot be created without it. So in order to activate it you need to do the following:
- Boot from the Acronis Bootable Rescue Media and choose to Create Acronis Secure Zone as shown on the screenshot step1
- Create the Secure Zone and choose as an option Activate Start-up Recovery Manager as shown in the screenshot step2
After that you will be able to recover the machine without booting into the CD but by pressing F11.
I would also advise you to take a look at the User's Guide chapter 2.10.2 and 6.9 to find more information.
Please kindly let me know whether something seems unclear - I will be glad to provide you with an explanation.
Thank you!
