Agent differences between ABR10AW and ABR10Server

Thread needs solution

Is it possible to make a backup of a server by installing the agent in ABR10AW to the server? The documentation says an agent can be installed on the server, but doesn't specify which particular Acronis product. If it cannot be used in this manner, is it possible to backup a server with the rescue media made in ABR10AW abiding by Acronis license policy? If ABR10Server must be used to backup the server, can you use the management console in ABR10AW to connect to the server agent? These types of questions need to be made more clearer in the documentation so we know what needs to be purchased or what is compatible in the ABR10 product line.

Hello JBswift!

Thank you for your question, let me try to shed some light to the situation.

Please accept our apologies for confusion caused. Let me explain the Acronis Backup and Recovery product's line.

We have solutions for Workstations and Servers, and all the products can be divided in

You can see the list of supported Operating Systems in this article.

Also we can divide the products in

So unfortunately it's not possible to backup the remote server with the help of Acronis Backup and Recovery Advanced Workstation Agent - it simply won't install due to the OS is not supported. You won't be able to backup and recover the Server OS with the help of the Acronis Bootable Rescue Media as well: first, we do not guarantee the safety of the backup and would strongly not recommend you to do it, not only because is will be a violation of Acronis License Policy, but the image created may be corrupted, etc. as well. You won't be able to recover it for the same reason: at the very beginning of the restore process the OS in image is identified, and should it be not supported, you will be reported that the image is corrupted.

In case you need to backup the server remotely. you will need Acronis Backup and Recovery Advanced Server. I would advise you to test the solution first anyway, you can find the demo versions available here. And feel free to refer to the User's Guides at any time - we tried to make it as clear and user-friendly as possible.

I would appreciate if you could let me know whether you need any further assistance, I will be glad to help!

Thank you!
