BACKUP DATA IN "HOME 2009" ONLY SHOWS 50% HAVE BEEN CREATED

Thread needs solution

Concerned about when backing up entire "C:" drive (MY COMPUTER) sector by sector it shows 50 GB; but, when backup is completed to external hard drive it shows only 24+GB of data stored. Is the data somehow compressed and it's all there or is there an issue where data is missing?  Have done MY COMPUTER backups multiple times with same result (including non sector by sector backup). Clearly, don't want to be in a situation where I need to backup "MY COMPUTER" and only %50 of the data is there. Please advise. Thanks.

Sector-by-sector does exactly what it says; the normal mode makes smaller backups as unused space is extremely compressed.

I completely avoid the SbS approach, and I've written a small "pre-" script that gets executed that clears all unused sectors to zeros, to make that compression even more impressive (it makes backups smaller on my systems by as much as 20%)

See my script collection. attached.

Thank you as I believe you answered my question that one can expect to see data backup to be compressed as much as 20% in your case  and 30% in mine in normal mode. Should anyone have anything else to add would greatly appreciate. Thanks.

Hello John,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/ | Acronis True Image]]

The backup file created with sector by sector method should be of the same size as the source partition. It looks like the program creates a normal compressed backup file. Have you performed the operation under Windows? Have you tried to backup under  Acronis Bootable Rescue Media? What is the build number of your program? You can check it navigating mouse cursor to upper line of the program then press ALT + left mouse button -> Help -> About

Thank you.
