Backup Plan Failures - B&R10 Update 3
Fresh install of B&R10 Update 3 (trial version).
Backup Plan results in several errors like this:
- Failed to rename file 'C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\MMS\Temp\.
The full log is attached.
Funny thing is the tib seems to be created OK (though I have not tried a restore yet).
Any ideas?

Hello Michael,
Welcome to our forum and thank you for posting. I will definitely assist you with this.
We have a known issue with Kaspersky Antivirus 2010, where a backup never completes and stays at 100%. Please check this article for additional information.
As for the error message - The specified file does not exist, it relates to another known issue where during a file backup, if one of the original folder gets deleted, the backup fails. Most likely this has to do with the conflict with KAV. You can take a look at this KB article for more details.
As a workaround you can try using KAV 2011, we do not have any known issues with Kaspersky Antivirus 2011.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

Anton,
Thank You for your quick response!
I use Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 (KIS 2009), not Kaspersky Anti-Virus.
You mention as a workaround to try KAV 2011, does B&R10U3 have any known issues with Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 (KIS 2011)?

I tried adding mms.exe to the Kaspersky trusted zone, aborted mms.exe with task manager, deleted and recreated the backup plan (per 14005: B&R hanging at the end of an incremental backup).
But I am still experiencing the hanging issue.
Is upgrading to KIS 2011 the only other option?

Hello Michael,
Thank you for replying.
The reason we wrote that KB article about KAV 2010 is because there were a lot of support requests from such machines. To be honest, there have not been any tests done with KIS 2009 or KIS 2011 at the moment. I will forward this information to the necessary department.
Please accept my sincerest apologies for the inconvenience, you can definitely try KIS 2011 and see how our software performs with it.
If you need any other help, please let me know.
Thank you.

Anton,
I was able to get B&R10 to work with Kaspersky Internet Security in two different cases:
1. On XP SP3 with KIS2009 by creating an Exclusion for both:
C:\Program Files\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\MMS.EXE and
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\BackupAndRecoveryAgent\BackupandRecoveryService.exe.
2. On Windows 7 Enterprise with KIS2011 without any exclusions.
Would it be possible to have Support confirm this?
Thanks,
Michael

Actually ABR does have issues with Kaspersky Antivirus 2011 and Acronis was made aware of that fact back around July 5th of this year. I know, because we worked with Technical Support to resolve the issue. (Anton, I can provide you with the case # and name of the engineer who assisted us if you would like).
@Michael
I suggest you try to specify exceptions for ProgramData\Acronis folder and for mms.exe , BackupandRecoveryService.exe, agent.exe, schedule2.exe processes. I think that the most important one is the exemption for the entire ProgramData\Acronis folder. If you need some help configuring Kaspersky let me know. HTH.

FlyingHorse,
As I mentioned, B&R10 "appears" to be running fine in Windows 7 with KIS 2011 (v11.0.1.400), not KAV 2011.
What is the nature of the "issues" KAV 2011 has with Acronis?
As for Kaspersky exclusions, I am not aware of any Windows folder called ProgramData\.
So your recommendation appears sketchy.
If someone can clarify the nature of this incompatibility between Kaspersky and B&R10 clearly, that would be much appreciated.
1. Specifically, compatibility details of B&R10 and all versions of Kaspersky (KAV and KIS).
2. For those combinations which are incompatible, detailed workarounds (if present).
3. For those combinations without workarounds, projections of if and when fixes will be made available.
Kaspersky is a very popular AV solution.
Acronis is a very usefull tool.
Acronis and Kaspersky would benefit greatly from working together to inform users of incompatibilities and what is being done to fix them.

You should really try to educate yourself before you call someone's information 'sketchy'. If you took the time to do a simple Google search for "ProgramData folder", you would have found over 100,000 results to aid you. I was only trying to help you. Best of luck to you.

FlyingHorse,
I am sorry if I offended you.
I found exclusions are required in XP, not Vista or Windows7.
I am not aware of a ProgramData\ folder in XP which contains executables.
The only Wimdows7 combination I have tried is KIS20011 and B&R10, which seems to work without exclusions.
So I am curious why you would suggest exclusions for the environment that does not seem to need them.
Do you work for Acronis?
