Backup succeeds, but log shows failure cos can't eject tape.

Thread needs solution

Hi,
I'm running Backup and Recovery 11 on SBS 2011, and every night the backup succeeds, but says it fails as it fails to eject the tape. Here is the error log.

The server has a IBM ULTRIUM-HH4 BBNB (1068038546) Tape drive in it. (I believe it's LTO4)
After it fails to eject, it seems to retsart the job after a while (like a good 2 hours) and then it just hangs at 9%. I then have to basically stop the MMS service to even get the job to stop.

Any idea what I can do about this?

Thank you for posting. I will definitely assist you with this issue.

The latest released build 17438 includes a number of fixes for issues with tapes, among which also the possible reason for the issue you are facing. Here you can check the release notes with the description of all the issues resolved.

If simple installation of the update does not resolve the issue, it can be cause by the corrupted tape database. In this case you might want to recreate the database and tape cash following the steps below. Please beware that this will delete all the information about the existing backups on the tapes and you will be able to access them only after doing a tape scan. Re-attaching a tape-based vault is not possible.

  1. Delete the existing tape-based vaults.
  2. Stop the services Acronis Removable Storage Service and Acronis Managed Machine Service.
  3. Rename or delete the following folders:

Windows XP/2003:

  • Documents And Settings\All Users\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\ARSM
  • Documents And Settings\All Users\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\TapeLocation

Windows Vista/7/2008/2008 R2:

  • ProgramData\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\ARSM
  • ProgramData\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\TapeLocation
  1. Start the Acronis services and create a new vault.
